The Buffalo Niagara Concert Band and Director Amy J. Steiner are excited to announce details of the band’s spring concert, Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow, to take place on Friday, April 12, at Williamsville North High School.
This special performance celebrates ten years of playing and growing together, including several of the band’s favorite pieces played at previous performances. Among other pieces, the performance will include: I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables, featuring vocalist Jennifer Hannigan; The Cowboys from the John Wayne motion picture “The Cowboy and the Girl”; and The Unknown Soldier, a fresh take on Battle Hymn of the Republic. Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow will also feature Ben Cohen, timpani soloist.
In addition to promising musical excellence, this performance honors Buffalo Niagara Concert Band co-founder Geoff Richter. The band will be performing Tribute by MIchael Kibbe, a piece commissioned by the Buffalo Niagara Concert Band and friends in loving memory of Mr. Richter. Five dollars from the sale of each ticket will be donated to the Geoff Richter Performing Arts Award.
At the April 12 concert, John Philip Sousa Foundation Executive Committee representative and Vice President for Development, Gerald Guilbeaux, will publicly present the Sudler Silver Scroll Award to the Buffalo Niagara Concert Band. The Sudler SIlver Scroll recognizes concert bands for musical excellence, community involvement, and overall achievement. The Buffalo Niagara Concert Band is the first concert band in New York State to receive this honor.
