Lockhouse Distillery made history when they first opened back in 2013. Their first batch of vodka sold out in less than two hours. Not kidding. Over the past six years, this local gem has only continued to blossom right in the heart of the historic Cobblestone District.

When you walk in, you’ll notice you can see right into the distillery. If you’re looking for the complete behind-the-scenes experience, come for a tour and tasting. The staff here would love to tell you more about the distilling process.

Lockhouse is also a super cool spot to meet friends for happy hour or late-night drinks. Here’s everything else you need to know about these local makers and shakers.

First Distillery to Open in 83 Years

Lockhouse was the first distillery to open its doors in Buffalo since Prohibition. The city somehow survived without any legally operating distilleries in sight for nearly a century. 83 years to be exact. Thanks to these liquid changemakers, that’s a problem of the past.

Locally Made Spirits

Fast forward to today, and the city’s first distillery since Prohibition is still dedicated to crafting handmade spirits. Lockhouse crafts 8 spirits right here in Buffalo, including Vodka, Gin, Barrel-Aged Gin, Ginnamon, Revolution Coffee Liqueur, Sakura Gin, Ibisco Bitter Liqueur, and Amaro.

Craft Cocktails

If you love cocktails, you’ll likely fall head over heels for this menu. Clever names like Duck-Duck-Booze and Vodka Crayon pique our interest, and knowing all of the craft cocktails here are blended from fresh juices, mixers, garnishes, and spirits seals the deal. P.S. If cocktails aren’t your fave, ask for a mixed drink. Lockhouse made spirit drinks off the gun are $5.

Beer, Cider, Wine & More

You’ll also find New York State beers and ciders on draft as well as wine by the glass and bottle. The bar is fully stocked with options for any and every drinker, including non-drinkers. If you ask nicely, these mixologists will make you a very pretty mocktail.

Bottles to Go

You can’t buy bottles to go at every bar, but you can at this one. If you fall in love with a bottle or two while tasting, you can bring them home to re-stock your bar cart. P.S. Lockhouse posts weekly recipe videos on Insta if you need inspiration.

Weekly House Parties

Everyone loves a house party, right? Every Friday, Lockhouse is turning up the heat by throwing a house party. If you’re happiest on the dancefloor, Bkind & Dance is exactly what you need in your life. No cover. Good vibes only.

Yearly Parties

Yes, it’s winter. But no, it’s never too early to talk about summer events. Cobblestone Live is coming up on July 31 and August 1. If you’ve never been, you’re #doingitwrong. This two-day festival spreads across the entire neighborhood with indoor and outdoor stages on Illinois and Columbia streets. All of the bars, restaurants, and venues come together for this. Lockhouse transforms into an electronic music lounge for the festival. They also throw a post-parade party during Buffalo Pride Week in June.

Centrally Located

Lockhouse Distillery & Bar is conveniently located adjacent to Canalside, KeyBank Center, Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino, Helium Comedy Club, and Buffalo Riverworks. They are open Tuesday through Saturday, so come on in the next time you’re in the Cobblestone neighborhood. If you’re looking for a cool spot after a Sabres game, concert, or comedy show, this is the move.
