Bloody Wilbur at Hydraulic Hearth / Step Out Buffalo

By now you’ve surely heard of the Buffalo Bloody Mary Fest.

But what is it? How did it come to be? Who made this dream of so many Buffalonians a reality? We’re here to answer all of these questions and more, plus make sure you know exactly what to expect on Sunday, March 6, 2016 AND how you can win tickets to the sold-out event over the next couple months.

The Origin Story

Because every good superhero has an origin story, right? Too much? YOLO
Being ~passionate~ lovers of Bloody Mary’s ourselves, the fab team here at Step Out Buffalo decided it was high time to celebrate our beloved drink with 650 of our closest friends (aka all of you). But more than that, we wanted to showcase the best of the best here in the Queen City and put on an event that would take Sunday Funday to a whole other level. We also wanted to 1) create a fun, new, and different type of event the likes of which this town has never seen before and 2) support some amazing local businesses in our hometown and make sure everyone knew/tasted why we <3 them.
After months and months…and months of planning, phone calls, meetings, and taste-testing countless Bloodies the first ever Buffalo Bloody Mary Fest was born. We’re proud to say that this year’s Buffalo Bloody Mary Fest will bring together 32 of Western New York’s finest local businesses to be a part of the best damn brunch fiesta Buffalo has ever seen.
So what can you expect at the first ever Buffalo Bloody Mary Fest? How will it all go down? What is it exactly that you’re trying to win tickets to?

The Event

When you walk into Shea’s Performing Arts Center white doves will gracefully flutter out, harps will play, and angels will announce your arrival. Half-kidding…because let’s be honest all of that will probably happen in your/our/everyone’s heads. Once inside you’ll be greeted with a warm welcome then go forth to use your 10 tasting tickets trying out each of the unique Bloody concoctions crafted by Aroma on Bryant, Ballyhoo, Bar Bill, Buffalo Proper, Coles, Craving, Hydraulic Hearth, Oshun, Providence Social, and The Lodge, all lovingly made with the exclusive vodka of the Buffalo Bloody Mary Fest – Tommyrotter Vodka!
And because we wouldn’t let you go three hours without eating (we’re not savages), some of our favorite local eateries will be giving away free samples of their nomz. We’re talking Anderson’s, Barrel + Brine, Breadhive, Cream and Sugar Ice Cream Cafe, KegWorks, Mazra Natural Snacks, Nature’s Apothecary, and Park Edge Sweet Shoppe. And as an added bonus one of our sponsors, Krista’s Jerk Sauce, will be serving up some Jamaican style Bloodies for your tasting pleasure!
In between sips and bites there will be plenty of things to entertain you, including a photo booth station, Yelp interactive game booth, taking Instagram photos of the gorgeous Shea’s Performing Arts Center interior, chit chatting with the fine folks of Step Out Buffalo (don’t be shy y’all!), dancing around to the sweet sounds of DJ Lulu, and being wildly entertained by our lovely emcees from Rise Collaborative.
Once you’ve tried each of the ten Bloodies you’ll get a chance to vote for which one you think is best, then you’ll get to hear our (top secret) expert panel of judges decide which one was their favorite as well as who has the best garnished Bloody in Buffalo. Pretty sure we’ve never been more excited for an event/day/thing in existence…ever.
Of course we couldn’t have pulled everything off without the gracious support of our sponsors, Arctic Glacier Premium Ice, Buffalo Bites Food Tours, Buffalo Brunch, Elle AirJH DodmanKrista’s Jerk Sauce, Mercedes Benz of Buffaloand Yelp. These fine ladies and gentlemen deserve super recognition for believing in this event and helping make it a reality so show ‘em some love folks!

How to Win Tickets

We’ll admit we didn’t quite know what to expect when we first started planning the Buffalo Bloody Mary Fest, but it’s become quite clear (we’re lookin’ at you, Facebook commenters) that Buffalonians are pretty thirsty *pun intended* for a Bloody Mary-centric event. You got your thumbs in hyper-mode and bought up every last one of our available tickets in less than 5 days. 5 freaking days. And yes we were just as -if not more- surprised as you. THAT SAID we did set aside a small batch of tickets to give away to some lucky Bloody-loving Step Out Buffalo readers, so you can thank 2015 Step Out Buffalo for thinking that was a good idea before tickets even went on sale. You’re welcome.
Winning tickets is actually easier than you might think, so hold off on sending us your left arm and first born child…for now. All you have to do to increase your chances of winning tickets is follow Step Out Buffalo on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat (stepoutbuffalo), Twitter, and and keep your eyes and ears open for announcements about ticket giveaways. That’s it! We’ll be posting giveaways periodically between now and March 6 so stay tuned and check each medium often. And if you don’t have one of the aforementioned platforms you can always download it, because you know they are all free and this is 2016 so you should have all of them already anyways.

And for the Haters…

We’re extremely excited to see how our first year goes and have received tons of feedback for this event which, rest assured, we will be using to help evolve the Buffalo Bloody Mary Fest in the future. A lot of people are requesting we release more tickets or add more days/sessions, but you gotta keep in mind that this is the event’s FIRST YEAR and we want to have one successful year of knowledge under our belts for everyone involved before we go doubling and tripling things and getting all cray cray.
So yes, we hear you. And this doesn’t mean we don’t love you. It also doesn’t mean we don’t care about local businesses/Buffalo/America/the intergalactic universe/etc. It means we want to put on a killer event this year, learn from it, and adapt the event next year to be even more awesome while trying to accommodate as many Bloody lovers in Western New York as we physically can. ICYLUAR, our end game here at Step Out Buffalo – *literally* our entire reason for existing – is to encourage and promote Buffalo’s renaissance and the local businesses and events that are making it so. We hope that by creating events like the Buffalo Bloody Mary Fest we can bring more attention to those wonderful businesses that are creating more jobs, higher quality of life, and so on and so forth in our great city and give them an arena to showcase their talents to a large target audience – all while continuing to support our own business.
So stop yelling at us guys, especially when we’re trying to give you free tickets to an amazing sold-out event. Also kudos to making it all the way to the end of this article, if you’re at the Buffalo Bloody Mary Fest come find me and I will hug you and hopefully it won’t be weird.
