Did you know New York State’s oldest estate winery is only about an hour drive away from Downtown Buffalo?
Wait… what’s an estate winery? Estate wineries grow their grapes on their own adjacent vineyards and the bud-to-bottle wine-making process includes growing, harvesting, crushing, pressing, fermenting, aging, and bottling on-site.
If you follow the I-90 to Westfield, you’ll find Johnson Estate Winery. This third-generation, family-owned winery is celebrating 60 years in 2021. They produce 40+ wines from 13 estate-grown grapes, all grown on their 105 acres of vineyards.
Plus, they have special events coming up and a wine club you can join.
July 4, July 11, July 18, August 8, August 15, and August 22
Time Slots: 9:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m, 11:00 a.m.
You’re invited to explore the vineyard on Sunday mornings throughout July and August! Tickets are $15 each and you can choose your walk time when you register online.
When you arrive, you’ll receive a map of the estate, so you can customize your walk however you’d like. There will be seating at various locations around the Estate. Plus, the owner Fred Johnson will be available for questions.
At the end of the walk, adults 21 and older can enjoy a three-wine flight of specially selected wines, cheese, nuts, and dried fruit, as well as a special Estate-made dessert. For participants under age 21, grape juice will also be provided for tasting pleasure.
July 6, July 20, and August 10 from 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM
Did you know wine is influenced by a region’s geography, soils, slope, and weather? It’s called terroir.
If you’re interested in learning more about the terroir that influences the wines you’ll find near Lake Erie, you’ll appreciate this event.
The winery’s owners, Fred and Jennifer Johnson, and winemaker, Jeff Murphy, will lead you on a walk through the vineyards. Along the way, you’ll have a chance to see, touch, and taste the ripening grapes.
Plus, you’ll visit 3 deluxe tasting stations where you’ll have the chance to enjoy 7 or 8 Estate wines paired with local foods. The walk ends with a “backdoor tour” of the press deck and wine production areas. The cost is $60 per person for this experience.
Johnson Estate’s Wine Club can be completely customized based on your preference for dry, semi-dry or sweet wine. Each quarter, choose-your-own wines by selecting three (or more) bottles from a curated seasonal selection of 8-10 award-winning wines. Or, if you prefer, the winery will send the Club’s quarterly selections.
You may choose to pick-up at the winery or wines can be shipped to your home or business. Super convenient, right?
Plus, you’ll receive exclusive member benefits throughout the year, including special discounts, complimentary tastings, first access to new vintages, and more!
