Have you heard? Due to Covid-19, we’ve temporarily changed our motto to “Stay In, Buffalo”. And for the foreseeable future we will be posting content that shares how our community can continue to support local businesses while adhering to guidelines set by the CDC.
It’s sad to think of the number of local businesses that are not considered essential during these Coronatimes. Especially because we here in WNY know how essential these very businesses have been and continue to be to the resurgence of our area. One of those businesses is Explore Buffalo, a local walking tour non-profit.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Explore Buffalo has not been given essential standing to continue with business as usual, but that hasn’t stopped them from keeping us entertained and informed about the region we love. Explore Buffalo is providing Walking Routes based on their tours. The hope, according to their website, is that these tours “provide some interest and variety for your walking routine.”
“Each Walking Route includes architectural and historical points of interest, and is approximately 1.5-2 miles in length, or approximately 3,000-4,000 steps,” Explore Buffalo explains.
On Explore Buffalo’s website, you’ll find walking tours for the areas listed below, complete with a PDF download featuring a map, overview, and pre-planned stops with notes about each one:
- Canalside’s Inner Harbor Highlights Walking Route
- Elmwood Village Victorians Walking Route
- Historic Homes of Allentown Walking Route
- Hertel Avenue History Walking Route
- South Buffalo Walking Route

Explore Buffalo makes note that getting outdoors to walk is a healthy way to stay active and reduce stress and anxiety while engaging in social distancing strategies, but please follow the New York State Department of Health’s Guidance on How to Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19 When Enjoying the Outdoors.
