Getting healthy, nailing that promotion, sorting out your finances – they’re all respectable resolutions. But frankly, grasping at these straws can become mundane, which is why here at Step Out Buffalo we are challenging you to step out of your comfort zone and check those “always wanted to…” items off your Buffalo Bucket List.

We know it can be difficult to constantly come up with new and exciting ways to enjoy your time here in Western New York, so we’re doing the work for you. Without further ado, here are two extraordinary fall hikes worth the drive from Buffalo!

Buffalo Bucket List: Take a Scenic Fall Hike

Trekking on foot is the best way to see some awesome fall foliage this year! There’s no shortage of beautiful parks just a stone’s throw from Buffalo, so grab your Pumpkin Spice Latte and get moving! We have a fair amount of smaller parks like Como Park in Lancaster, Chestnut Ridge Park in Orchard Park, or Glen Park in Williamsville, but if you’re really looking for that wow factor, then it’s worth the drive to Letchworth or Watkins Glen!

1. Letchworth State Park

6625 Denton Corners Rd in Castile

Letchworth, often described as the “Grand Canyon of the East”, is a beautiful state park merely an hour away from Buffalo  The horseshoe view is gorgeous during any season, but the fall colors accentuate the scenery, making the drive particularly worthwhile. The Natural beauty this Park beholds will leave you in awe. Secluded waves of greenery clash with eroded canyons, creating a view that is nothing short of spectacular. Prepare yourself for a nature-filled abyss at Letchworth.

The family-friendly campgrounds are a perfect getaway for your kin. Enjoy the charcoal grills while your kids race around the loop on their bikes. Cool down on a hot day in the Olympic-sized swimming pool. Adventure Calls Outfitters offers White Water Rafting for those who are seeking an adrenaline filled experience on the Genesee River. This Park is dog-friendly as well, so your four-legged friend will be a part of the adventure.

2. Watkins Glen State Park

Watkins Glen, NY 14891

Watkins Glen, another highly rated park about 2 ½ hours from the city of Buffalo, is nestled within the Finger Lakes region. The hike is challenging if you start from the bottom and work your way uphill, or more relaxing if you park at the top and work your way down. Gravity

The crisp, fall weather makes this hike truly enjoyable!  You can make the trip in a day, but why not consider turning the trip into a weekend getaway?  You can explore some of their cute boutique shops, exemplary breweries, inviting restaurants, and fine wineries while you’re there!
