By now, summer is just a fleeting memory of fresh cut grass and the kids are probably inundated with school work. In addition to those piles of homework and the lack of pitter patter throughout the day, you may be starting to feel the first tingling sensations of frustration at the thought of Buffalo winter. If you’re like me and the cold isn’t your friend, you may want to stay in, only escaping your cave for work or shopping. Or, for those who aren’t afraid to venture forth you are probably already looking to get out. In either case, we want to help you get out and experience Western New York with the kids. So, here are some of our favorite family friendly things to do this November – breaking the bank not included.
For parents with kids from 12 months and up, the Monkey See, Monkey Do Bookstore in Clarence has a free story time at 10:30am on November 1st and November 8th. The best thing about Monkey See, Monkey Do is that the fun doesn’t end there. They have a whole calendar of events for November like Balloons Over Broadway (11/15) and Hokey Fun for Kids (11/29), both free to attend. More info can be found at monkeysread.com.
The Buffalo History Museum offers another story time option for you and the kiddos on November 4th – Toddler Story Time: Harvest Time. Admission for adults is only $7 and kids under 7 are free! Find more details at buffalohistory.org.

With fine art and the multitude of events they have, everyone in the family is bound to have fun. Check certain tours and art classes for free on November 7th for First Fridays. You’ll even get the chance to support the local economy and knock out some items on that grocery list. Bonus! Visit their website at elmwoodmarket.org for more details.
Another great place to have fun with the family is Buffalo ComedySportz where they do fast-paced, improvisational comedy, played as a sport.
