It’s not often that we come across a locally-owned restaurant that serves the public 24/7, but when we do, we expect that their menu shifts gears at some point past 10pm to lighten the load on the kitchen. Not at Gardenview Restaurant in West Seneca, folks.
They’re serving up all the goods, all the time. In need of a milkshake and fried pickles at 3am? Gardenview. Texas hot omelette with a Labatt Blue at 11pm? Gardenview.
I didn’t visit at 3am nor 11pm, but I can tell you that this diner will not be short of options for you, and I was shocked to find out about the 24/7 hours. How had I not previously known there is a place in Buffalo to get pizza logs at 5:30am? Full steam ahead.
Full disclosure, my food was comped for this meal in order to post on @buffalobrunch!
The spread was abundant. We got a Texas hot omelette, a baja steak omelette, an Italian burger, the cowboy chicken, beef on weck spring rolls, bang bang shrimp, grilled chicken spring salad, loaded meatloaf, cheeseburger soup, a strawberry milkshake, and a chocolate milkshake.
In true old school diner fashion, the portions and saltiness of the dishes were ample and the toppings plentiful. Omelette featuring chopped up hot dogs, Texas hot sauce, American cheese, onions. Chicken breast with bacon, BBQ sauce, onion rings, caramelized onions, cheddar jack. Burger with roasted red pepper, roasted artichokes, balsamic onions, provolone cheese, pesto mayo, romaine, tomato. These are not sides. No, there are also sides.
The cheeseburger soup was rich and creamy and begged for a swig of beer to wash it down. The toppings for both the chicken breast and burger complimented each other nicely – the sweet, savory, cheesy, fried goodness balancing out the blandness of the chicken breast and the fresh tangy flavors of the veggies, balsamic and pesto contrasting the salty burger. The meatloaf was a little dry but you may not notice if you focus on the onion tanglers and crumbled blue cheese that it’s smothered in.
Alas, there’s a simple rule I’m going to set in place when you’re going to have brunch with a group of friends at Gardenview Restaurant, no matter what time of day. Whether the limo is looking for its last stop at 4:30am, you’re going for a proper 1pm brunch, or it’s midnight and you’ve determined nowhere else is open – make sure you have some booze in your system to soak up. Cause this is the gluttonous, greasy brunch you’ve been waiting for.
Oh, and don’t forget to refresh your palate with a milkshake. Diner. Style. Baby!
