Just a short drive from Buffalo is the scenic Finger Lakes region. One popular destination among the lakes is the historic town of Canandaigua. Sitting north of the lake by the same name, Canandaigua offers a variety of dining and entertainment options, as well as stunning lakefront views all year round. If you’re looking for a quick trip close to home for a weekend excursion, Canandaigua should be top of your list.

Dining at The Lake House on Canandaigua

The Lake House on Canandaigua has recently added executive chef Steve Eakins and executive baker John Bard to the culinary team alongside food and beverage director, Nicholas Massimilian, to further the hotel’s culinary expertise. In the hotel, guest can find dining available at the Rose Tavern, the Sand Bar, the Library Bar, and the Pool Bar.

At the Rose Tavern, guest can enjoy a seasonal menu inspired by the Finger Lakes region. The Sand Bar offers an extensive beer and wine selection, fresh cocktails, and simple bar staples. Located off of the Lake House Lobby, the Library bar allows guests to cozy up by the fireplace or settle in at one of the seating nooks and enjoy house-baked pastries, specialty coffee drinks, charcuterie, and a selection of cocktails, wine and beer. Open seasonally, the Pool Bar features drinks and snacks to pair with a day spent by the water.

Other Places to Eat & Drink

Canandaigua has quite the local food scene. Popular places among locals include fine dining at Bon Ami French Bistro, finger food at The Green Front, and traditional American fare at Eric’s Office Restaurant. Need something to kick off your morning? Patty’s Place is a go-to breakfast diner while Simply Crepes offers a more refined breakfast experience. As far as dessert goes, Cheshire Farms Creamery is a must-visit for home churned ice cream and fresh baked goods.

The area is also scattered with breweries for beer lovers. Some favorites include Other Half Brewing, Twisted Rail Brewing Company, Young Lion Brewing Company, and Peacemaker Brewing Company.

If you’re planning your stay in Canandaigua during the warmer months, this is the perfect time to take advantage of the waterfront. Rent kayaks and SUP boards with Canandaigua Sailboard, plan a relaxing cruise on The Canandaigua Lady, or rent a speed boat or pontoon right at The Lake House.

Explore the Finger Lakes Wine Trail

Looking to dabble in some wine tasting? The Finger Lakes are known for their wineries and Heron Hill Tasting Room on Canandaigua Lake is one worth visiting. Housed in a renovated 100-year-old barn, Heron Hill Tasting Room is the satellite location to the original Heron Hill Winery on Keuka Lake. At their Canandaigua location, guest can tour the vineyard and sip on a variety of wines while taking in the picturesque view above the lake.
