Graycliff Announces a Friday Drive-Thru Farmers Market

As we impatiently await for the weather to break and Covid to pass, we’ve received a lot of inquiries about farmers markets. Will they be back this summer? If so, when will they open? And what will they be like?

One local farmers market has decided to move forward starting this Friday, May 8. Graycliff has organized a drive-thru version of its popular “Market at Graycliff,” set to launch this Friday, May 8th, from 3-7 p.m, in Graycliff’s parking lot at 6472 Old Lake Shore Road in Derby, NY.

How It Works

The market will follow pandemic regulations for Farmers Markets and feature a selection of vendors offering food, soap, and beverages. The market is pick-up only. Customers must pre-order (order deadlines of Thursday or Friday set by each vendor), with purchase pick-up on Friday at Graycliff between the hours of 3 and 7 p.m. No purchases or cash transactions will happen on site, with all pre-order products paid for in advance and put directly in the vehicle of each customer, without anyone ever getting out of their cars.

This includes orders from a weekly food truck offering both hot food food and/or heat and eat options. There will be one food truck on site each week, with the May 8th launch featuring The Cheesy Chick. Graycliff will be posting a new menu weekly on its Facebook page (facebook.com/flwgraycliff), consolidating the options, as well as explicit purchase information, from each vendor into one document. Following the May 8th launch, the program expects to continue on Fridays through at least mid-June.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer this service to our community during this challenging time, as well as bring business to our Market vendors, all of whom are small local businesses,” says Graycliff’s Director of Operations, Ryan Gravell. He continues, “while we are not able to offer any experience related directly to Graycliff, we hope that you enjoy the glimpse of the property from your car window and will come visit when we do open our doors for tours again.”

Graycliff is charging a 5% administrative fee to the Market vendors and, after costs, will not be breaking even. They ask that customers consider making a donation of $5 at experiencegraycliff.org/support/donate/ to help further their mission of restoring and preserving the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Graycliff property as a publicly-accessible landmark.

Graycliff’s tour season and all associated programming has been postponed due to the pandemic, causing significant financial distress to the organization whose operating expenses are covered largely by revenue from tour admission and retail sales.
