Buffalo and the surrounding areas of Western New York contain a variety of cultural centers, organizations, businesses, artists, restaurants and more, that embody Black History and its strong and significant influence on our region.

In honor of Black History Month, we’ve pulled together articles and guides to spotlight a variety of ways you can show your support this month (and year round) by learning, celebrating, and spending money within the black community:

Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans.
