ice curling in buffalo

Running out of winter hobbies? We totally get it. Coming up with endless winter activities in WNY can be challenging, but we’re here to tell you it’s absolutely not impossible. It just takes a little imagination and/or willingness to put on a hat and gloves. And let’s be honest, we’ve got like 8 (or more) months of it, so you might as well find something to do. And we’ve got just the right idea for you and the crew – curling. And no, you don’t have to be an Olympic star to participate in this sport- it’s for anyone and everyone looking for a good time. We realize that the ice in your backyard is not going to cut it, so we’ve gathered all of the spots in WNY where you can rent out a sheet for the ultimate group match!

1. Buffalo Curling Club

91 Buffalo China Rd, Buffalo, NY 14210

The Buffalo Curling Club is no joke, guys. It all goes down at Buffalo’s only dedicated-ice curling facility located in the old Buffalo China factory, where they’ve got curling clinics, lessons, leagues, and rentals. The indoor facility is brand new, as of February 2018. You can book the ice for a group game or private lessons by emailing them with a day and time! Their availability varies between 9am-5pm Monday through Thursday and 9am-9pm Friday through Sunday from October to April!

2. Buffalo RiverWorks

359 Ganson St, Buffalo, NY 14203

Home to two pavillion-covered outdoor ice rinks, Riverworks makes for a Buffalo curling hotspot with a total 5 regulation length ice sheets available for a maximum of 8 people per sheet (4 v 4). You can schedule a 2-hour sheet rental on the website booking calendar for just $200! Fyi- that includes equipment and a mini instructional session for all of the beginners out there. AND, The Ward will be waiting to serve you some hot food and craft brews once your time on the ice is up!

3. Canalside

44 Prime St, Buffalo, NY 14202

Being that Canalside has literally all of the ice activities, you better believe they’ve got curling too. They’ve got two curling lanes available during open skate hours (available on the website and weather-depending) to reserve online. The cost is $15 per person for one hour (minimum of 4 people, maximum of 10)- and that includes an instructor and equipment. *Killer deal alert:* On Tuesdays through Fridays, if you hold your match before 4:00 pm, you’ll get a complimentary (aka FREE) pre and post game water, soda, or Labatt Blue/Blue Light!
