We’re deep in the heart of soup season, friends. Whether your go-to is french onion, an off-the-wall flavor from Danny’s extensive soup menu, or a brothy Asian version like phở or ramen, Western New York restaurants offer something for everyone.
This guide specifically focuses on restaurants where you can order phở (pronounced “fuh”), a delicious Vietnamese soup consisting of broth, rice noodles, herbs, and meat. As Vietnam’s national dish, there are many varieties of phở out there, but it’s traditionally made with beef-broth and served with meat (sometimes in the broth, sometimes on the side) and fresh garnishes and condiments on the side. The accompanying “add-ins” served with phở make it easily adaptable to ones preferences and somewhat of an experience.
Pro tips:
Unlike other soups, Pho is a full meal in one dish.
Phở makes for a perfect take-out dish.
Often where you find great phở, you’ll find a fantastic Banh Mi sandwich, Banh xeo – a crispy, stuffed, savory Vietnamese pancake, and Gỏi cuốn – fresh Vietnamese spring rolls.
