If you look forward to picking up a city of Buffalo T-shirt or handcrafted jewelry at the Elmwood or Allentown Art Festivals, you’ll be thrilled to hear that you don’t have to wait until those 2 dates in the summer to find the vendors you love. The Buffalo Saturday Artisan Market at Canalside is host to locals wanting to kick start their business in the community. The market began in 2012, to give the many talented and artistic individuals the chance to continue to promote their craft and looking for support from Buffalo shoppers.
That’s one of the many things I love about this city; the support. We’ve earned our “City of Good Neighbors” title because our community looks forward to seeing a new or small business thrive. Whether it’s a new restaurant, shop, bar, or market vendors, locals come from all over to show their support to businesses; small or large.
Walking tent to tent, I noticed fresh soaps, T-shirts, candles, toys, beautifully handcrafted mugs, photographs, and colorful jewelry. My personal favorite vendors at the Artisan Market are Joyful Energy and Hartke Designs. I love just about any kind of flower jewelry, and Joyful Energy had beautiful rose earrings in shades of red, pink, and peach along with rose necklaces in white, tan and brown all at great prices. I first discovered Hartke Designs at the Glen Park Art Festival in the village of Williamsville and it immediately became one of my favorites to track down at other art festivals. She sells gorgeous floral pieces for your hair and unique jewelry like camera, bird cage, and watering can earrings. All of the vendors at the Saturday Artisan Market are very reasonably priced. You can check out the vendors while listening to the live entertainment booming on the boardwalk right in front of the ships, next to Liberty Hound.
Spend some time getting lunch down at the Canalside after you’ve gone through the Market. Clinton’s Dish has some of your cookout favorites like charred cheeseburgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs and chicken sandwiches. Food Trucks have also become a reliable option at majority of the markets, fairs, and festivals in town. R&R BBQ Food Truck and Catering has an amazing pulled pork sandwich topped with loads of sauce and coleslaw on a fluffy bun with sides like sweet corn bread and pasta salad. This is the perfect food for a hot summer day down by the water.
The Saturday Artisan Market dates are June 21st, July 5th & 19th, August 2nd & 9th, September 6th & 20th and October 4th & 18th from 10-5pm, rain or shine. Follow them on Twitter or Facebook, or check out their website, , for more details!
