What’s better than wandering the city from bar to bar? Wandering the city with a tour guide (pressure’s off!) from bar to bar while learning a thing or two about fun Buffalo history, indulging in drink specials, and experiencing pubs you may never have ventured into on your own.
We’re talking about Buffalo History Tours’ Pub Walks of course. These fun and fascinating walks feature Buffalo’s grassroots history including local historians, legends, and surprising secrets. The fully guided walks include drink specials at each tavern stop, and start on Friday, April 15th at 7pm with the Allentown Pub Walk.
During the Allentown walk discover how Allentown changed the course of American history (if you’re not curious about this, you’re not human), learn how a stolen Rembrandt painting found a home in the neighborhood, straighten out the mystery of Allentown’s oh-so-crooked streets, and visit some old favs like Mulligans and Fat Bob’s to wet your whistle.
If Saturdays and South Buffalo are more your scene, you’ll want to grab tickets to the first Old First Ward Pub Walk on Saturday, April 16th at 7pm. Led by local historian Gene Overdorff this tour visits absolute hidden gems like Gene McCarthy’s, Adolfs Old First Ward Tavern, and Cook’s Bar and Grill, each one more fun than the last. Discover how a South Buffalo altar boy became the father of the CIA, hear about an Academy Award winning actor’s First Ward ancestry, and drink like they do in the OFW. While you’re at it you might want to schedule in brunch for the next day – somewhere that makes a mean Bloody Mary.
