If you find yourself in the Northtowns for a day, one area worth exploring is the region home to the Tonawandas. Sharing the Erie Barge Canal, the twin cities of Tonawanda and North Tonawanda offer a variety of places to eat, drink, shop, listen to live music, and venture along the Niagara River and Erie Canal.

To help you make the most of your day in the region, we’ve put together an itinerary of places well worth a visit but we encourage you to see what catches your eye along the way and add it to your own personal list!

Explore the Canal and River by Land and Water

Water is all around the Tonawandas with plenty of ways to enjoy it. By land, you’ll find bike paths that follow along the water as they travel through Ellicott Creek Park up to the Canal and then through Niawanda Park along the Niagara River. In the warmer months, if you’re looking to get on the water, you can head to Collins Marine for pontoon boat rentals or try out the water bikes and kayaks at Water Bike Adventures. For those who like to fish, head to Gratwick Park where you’ll find a nicely paved bike path and fishing pier that is wheelchair accessible too!

Practice Your Drive at The Golf Dome

175 Brompton Rd, Tonawanda, NY 14150 / More Info

Open October – May, here you’ll find a driving range, miniature golf, a putting and chipping green, and a practice bunker. This is fun for both family and friends to enjoy regardless of how good your golf game is.
