After the wildly successful Step Out Buffalo x WNY Artists COVID-19 Relief Merch campaign was able to sell 2,438 apparel items and raise a total of $34,480.59 for local COVID-19 relief efforts in WNY (THANK YOU, BUFFALO!), Step Out Buffalo has decided to move forward with a dream project that allows us to continue to collaborate with local artists and bring Western New Yorkers unique apparel while benefiting the community.
Launched on May 1, 2020, Step Out Buffalo x Artists is a monthly initiative that pairs local artists with different charities each month to help raise money to help those in need as well as support artists.
How It Works:
Each month, Step Out Buffalo x Artists will launch one new limited edition design by a local artist. Western New Yorkers will have just one month to place their orders for the Design of the Month. Each campaign will offer a variety of product types featuring a unique design showcasing Buffalo in interesting and exciting ways. Each month a third of the proceeds will benefit a new charity in the WNY region.
“This campaign has been a dream of mine for some time now,” explains Step Out Buffalo co-founder Emily Morrow. “The idea of collaborating with artists from the area to create apparel like this has always excited me. The merch shows off not only our city but also the artistic talent we have here, all while benefiting a charitable organization. Plus the fact that this apparel supports local people and companies that honestly really need it right now is the cherry on top of what I think is the ultimate win-win scenario we all need right now.”
May 2020: In Rust We Trust
To kick start this monthly merch campaign, May’s collaboration features local artist Holly Norris from White Bicycle, the design studio behind the We Are Here Mural on Hertel Ave. Her design “In Rust We Trust”, which speaks to the rust belt state of mind, is available on a t-shirt, crewneck sweatshirt, pullover hoodie, and tank for the entire month of May.
Per the campaign’s tagline, ‘Buy a shirt, give relief’, each shirt sold will help raise money for local charities, causes, and COVID-19 relief efforts. May’s charity of the month is FeedMore WNY.
All merch sold will be printed by local printer Covered Wagon Promotions in Lancaster, NY. Profits from the campaign will be split evenly between this month’s charity, FeedMore WNY; this month’s designer, Holly Norris; and Step Out Buffalo, the small local business behind the project.
Since this is a monthly campaign, all orders for May’s limited edition design must be placed by May 31, 2020. A new design will be launched on June 1st.
