The next Local Restaurant Week comes at a perfect time to prep for winter 2.0. Nothing beats the April-and-I’m-frezin’-my-butt-off blues like good food and drink. Here is what we’re thinkin’ –  not that there aren’t tons of fantastic options up and down the Local Restaurant Week list. Truthfully, we could go on and on. Some of these are based on SOB favorites thanks to regular menus and ambiance, some of these are based on places we love, plus the addition of an outstanding LRW menu offering. These are just a few ideas to get you moving in the right direction – like out. Let us know if you get out all 7 days and we’ll put you in the LRW Hall of Fame.

In truth this is still on our “want to” list (and we intend to take full advatage of LRW to get in), but we’ve heard a lot of good things about Chef Allie Demers so we added it to the list. You gotta love a brand new place with guts enough to sign up for LRW.  Plus, their LRW menu looks great. Dinner includes Soda, Coffee, Tea, House Wine or Domestic Draft. Choice of Soup or Salad; Choice of Potato Croquettes, Bread Platter or Pierogis; Entrees include Skillet Mac & Cheese, Horseradish Honey Glazed Salmon, Stuffed Pepper, Risotto, or Prime Rib Sandwich for $20.16. The $30.16 entrees are Flat Iron Steak, Maple Seared Salmon, Goat Cheese Stuffed Chicken Breast. Potato Croquettes? I’m in! They also have lunch for two at $20.16.

Chef Edward Forster in the kitchen at Buffalo Proper can work magic with pretty much anything. We have our eyes on the Great Lakes Bass on their LRW menu paired with Oles Farm Squash Puree, Crispy Brussel Sprouts, Bacon & Red Onion Jam. They are also offering Arugula Salad Pumpkin Seed, Parmiggiano, Rice Puff or Seasonal Soup Seasonal Garnishes, Poured Tableside for another first course option. (You absolutely can’t go wrong with their soup – Celery Root Bisque before the pour pictured above). A Braised Beef Whole Wheat Spaetzle, Asparagus, Peppered Sour Cream, Beef Jus if the bass doesn’t excite you.

Coco Salmon

With a nice bar, and plenty of space to chill, Coco is always a great spot to enjoy LRW. With this year’s LRW menu, it’s a must try. At first glance I new exactly what I wanted, and then I saw the rest of the menu. C1: Roasted Red Pepper Bisque; Pear, Endive, Cassis Salad; Fig, Olive, Walnut, Tapenade & Cachat. C2 at $20.16 – Chicken Milanese; Porcini Mushroom and Mascarpone Pierogi; Grilled Shrimp and Manchigo Polenta; Duck & Foie Gras Sausage with Potato Rosti. Or for another ten spot ($30.16) you can get the slow roasted Salmon or the Iberian Lamb Stew. OMG! Now I’m not sure what I’ll order but I do have my reservation. You should make a reservation now. NO – really, right now. They also have lunch for two for $20.16.

Restaurant Info
This longtime Buffalo favorite is located in the heart of Buffalo’s theater district and offers a nice romantic atmosphere and an outstanding LRW menu with plenty of options and value. For $20.16 you can get Lobster Ravioli, a Char Grilled choice of Sirloin, Stuffed Crepes, or Shrimp Pasta Aioli. For $30.16 you can get Center Cut Fillet Mignon, Almond Crusted Salmon, or Shrimp & Scallop Risotto. All Dinner Entrees come with a Glass of Wine or Dessert. Plus they have select bottles of wine for $20.16. The also do a LRW lunch for 2 at $20.16 too. Booya! (That may or may not be a Kim Possible reference.)

Restaurant Info
If you haven’t been to The Lodge you really need to step out more – seriously. Maybe the coolest decor in town, from the forest behind the bar to the arctic lounge upstairs – but they’re not just a pretty face. They have an impressive LRW menu and this week is the perfect chance to pop in, check it out, and sample the grub. I’m pretty sure I’m going with the Roasted Half Pheasant Creamed Spinach, roasted potatoes, and duck jus. Although… the Steak Frites – truffle fries, asparagus, and bordelaise sauce looks awfully good, and the house made ravioli never disappoints.

Potato Pancakes at Winfield's Pub

Winfield’s Pub

Lackawanna / $$ / lrw
Restaurant Info
If you haven’t noticed we love this Lackawanna gastro pub. It provides everything one could want in a relaxed, unpretentious, fun, friendly, casual meal – we just can’t seem to get enough. I know they’ll be offering the Chicken Pot Pie which is hard to beat. They also have some small plates like: Fried Calamari, Beer Steamed Mussels, Duck Poutine, Mushroom Arancini, and Thick Sliced Bacon. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again- if you have a chance to try the potato pancakes, the Lamb Burger or Kiki’s warm potato salad, just say yes.

What dreams are mode of – Oxtail Pierogi

The Mess Hall

Lackawanna  / $$  /  lrw
Restaurant Info
I admit, I’m a little bit obsessed with The Mess Hall. What drives an obsession? In this case it is delicious down home, covered in deep, rich sauce and flavors that can keep you up and drooling at night. I still dream about the Oxtail Pierogi, but maybe it’s just me. It might not happen to you, but don’t say I didn’t warn you. Their LRW menu might be dangerous at $20.16 – Apps: ‘nduja Arancini -muenster cheese, tomato sauce; Stuffed Banana Pepper Tots- gorgonzola, sun dried tomatoes, pine nuts, fonduta; SMOKED Pork and Chorizo Taco – black beans, salsa verde, roasted poblano crema, piquillo pepper sauce. For the main choose one entrée or a pizza. Dumplings and Clams- homemade ricotta dumplings, fresh littleneck clams out of the shell, bacon, chives, parsley; Jerked Pork Cheeks – warm potato salad, Krista’s jerk sauce; Homemade Oxtail Pierogi- beef reduction, caramelized onion, beef reduction; Homemade Farfalle with short rib ragu or…choose any one of their thin crust pizzas.
They will be open Monday, April 11th from 4-9pm.  Chef Krista Von Wagner will be there with her line of sauces which are featured on the menu.
