Have you started shopping for the holidays yet? We know it’s early, but in our opinion, it’s never too soon to get in the holiday gifting spirit! Remember, the best gifts are closer than you think!

Here in Western New York, it’s no secret that we love to support small businesses. From our incredible local bar and restaurant scene to all of the whimsical gift shops and boutiques that line our streets, these businesses are the heart of our community, and a major part of what makes Buffalo so unique. Pink Friday, November 18th this year, is a fast growing shop local theme that supports boutiques and gift shops, so save the date!

That’s why we promote shopping local as much as possible all year long— but especially during the holiday shopping season.

So whether you’ve challenged yourself to buy all of your gifts from local businesses this year or just need some inspiration for that hard-to-buy-for person on your list, we’ve got you covered.

eGift Cards to Support Local Businesses

The shop local, support local Shop 716 continues! If you recall from previous years, a Shop 716 eGift card is one of the best ways to support local  restaurants, retailers, and attractions, while also knocking out your holiday shopping list. So it’s a win-win all around!

Sponsored by Erie County and administered by the Amherst Chamber of Commerce, the Shop 716 initiative encourages shoppers to give back to their community by purchasing their holiday gifts locally. Keep your hard earned money, right here where you live. By doing so, you keep your friends and family employed and create more local jobs. Shopping local conserves energy and resources and is better for the environment!

WNY is our home & we can show our community we support them by shopping and supporting our local independent businesses. The Shop 716 initiative is to be a champion of all business, supporting the shop/support local themes, to develop business unity and camaraderie to uplift our entire region.

Because as we continue to recover from the pandemic’s effects, shopping local and supporting Erie County businesses should still be a high priority.

Here’s how it works:

Just like last year, Shop 716 eGift cards are redeemable at a number of popular local vendors like Amherst Pizza & Ale House, Blush Buffalo, Balanced Body Foods, Mighty Taco, and more. Simply purchase your eGift card and use it at your favorite shops and restaurants throughout Western New York.

Whether you need a gift for your boss, your favorite coworker, your best friend, or even just for yourself (we love a treat yourself moment), these eGift cards make an incredibly versatile gift. No need to stress about finding that perfect gift— with almost 900 participating vendors, everyone on your list will be able to find a shop they love.

All participating vendors should have an Oxford wool pennant on display to signify their partnership with the Shop 716 initiative— be sure to look for it while you shop!

Have leftover purchased eGift cards kicking around from last year? We have great news: They’re still valid! Check out the full list of vendors online, and have fun shopping at your favorite local businesses.
