One look at Pinterest and it’s clear – it’s a DIY world and we’re just living in it. Nothing feels or looks better than something (bonus points for coolness and usefulness) that you made with your own two hands…and when you go ahead and add friends and some drinks to the mix it’s a no-brainer. Cue Makers – a DIY workshop that offers classes of all shapes and sizes. Begun as the brainchild of Gretchen Meyers aka the jewelry mastermind behind Peg’s Hardware, Makers
finally recently opened up its own space behind Blue Collar (which is connected to one of our favorite shops, Modern Nostalgia) on Hertel Avenue and it is EVERYTHING. Want to make a spiked quartz necklace? There’s a class for that. An envelope clutch? Modern dream catcher? Hanging air plants? Check, check, and check. Not only does Makers allow you to create whatever you want, however you want but it’s also BYOB. #winning
There are so many different classes you can take and so much creative freedom within each class that you can literally make a weekly date with your friends and never make the same thing twice. We took the Spiked Quartz necklace class and the Hanging Air Plants class courtesy of Makers and the possibilities (and wine/laughs/wine laughs) were endless…so much so that we felt we needed to take each class over again just to satisfy our play with all of our zillion options. The classes at Makers change each month, and if you ever want to take a class but don’t see it featured don’t hesitate to reach out and ask! Also if you’re having a bachelorette party, birthday, or just gathering of sorts and you’re looking to do something different (and walk away with a new bracelet, wall decoration, necklace, etc.) Makers has got you covered and can even bring the party to Y-O-U. Check out some of the classes they offer (new ones are added all the time) and get ready to flex those creative muscles and get your craft on!
Jewelry & Accessories
We’re talking Leather and Tassel Necklaces, Stone and Link Bracelets, Vintage Statement Necklaces, Spike Quartz Necklaces, Mala Necklaces, Nautical Knot Bracelets, Mala Bracelets, Ombré Tassel Necklaces, and Envelope Clutches here. Just imagine all the outfits you could take to the next level. Sidebar: After taking the Spike Quartz necklace class not only has my crafty creation become my favorite piece of jewelry but it’s also a huge compliment magnet. *hair flip*
These aren’t your ordinary humdrum wall adornments. These are Button Art hangings, Magazine Art hangings, Jewelry Wall Holders, Modern Dream Catchers, and Color Blocked Clocks that will give your walls some serious oomph. The pieces that are created in these classes are seriously worthy of their own Pinterest boards (and awards) and are bound to create some serious home-envy among everyone who steps foot into your place.
Why have regular ol’ plants when you can have cute plants? The Hanging Air Plant and Macrame Hanging Succulent classes let you create your own mini –and adorable- ecosystems then bring them home with you where you’ll live happily ever after together…as long as you water them. Plus you’d be lying if you said you haven’t always wanted tiny little succulents to call your own and here we are telling you exactly how you can make them. Go on with your crafty self.
Makers classes are held throughout each month in the back of Blue Collar. For more information on Makers check out their website and to get updates on the latest classes, schedules, and events check them out on Facebook and Instagram.
