After posting part 1 of this Buffalo Culture mini series featuring movies filmed in well-known Buffalo and WNY locations, we found out that Buffalonians love to see their city on the big screen! No surprise there.
So we’re back with part 2 featuring seven more movies that were filmed right here in the 716.
1. The Natural (1984)
Starring Robert Redford, Robert Duvall, and Glenn Close, the baseball film follows the story of a young player who is shot and courageously returns to playing in the MLB.
About two-thirds of the movie was filmed in Buffalo and scenes show Buffalo Central Terminal, the Ellicott Square Building, War Memorial Stadium, Parkside Candy Store, All High Stadium, and even the Buffalo Psychiatric Hospital.
2. Marshall (2017)
Starring Chadwick Boseman, Josh Gad, and Kate Hudson, the film is based on the true story of, first African-American Supreme Court Justice, Thurgood Marshall’s early career, and one of his career defining cases.
You can find Buffalo City Hall, Statler City, Central Terminal, and more throughout this movie.
3. Best Friends (1982)
Starring Burt Reynolds and Goldie Hahn, the movie follows the story of best friends that decide to get married after living and working together.
This movie features Buffalo Central Terminal and even a house in Parkside (45 Summit Ave).
4. Hide in Plain Sight (1980)
Starring James Caan and Robert Viharo, the film is based on the true story of a man who discovers his ex wife and children have gone missing without any trace.
The streets of Buffalo are throughout this movie, and you can even see some of the murals that are still up today!
5. Sharknado 2: The Second One (2014)
With Ian Ziering and Tara Reid, the movie shows a category 7 hurricane that carries deadly predators across New York City.
While supposed to be taking place in New York City, the film was actually shot in Buffalo. You can see parts of downtown changed to resemble the skyscrapers of NYC, but Lockport Cave is actually seen in the film still.
6. The True Adventures of Wolfboy (2019)
The film follows the story of a young boy who runs away from home to find his estranged mother.
In the movie you can see Red Top Hots, the South Buffalo Lighthouse, Woodlawn Beach, and parts of Niagara Falls.
7. Henry’s Crime (2010)
Starring Keanu Reeves, James Caan, and Vera Farmiga, the movie follows a man just released from prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Upon his release, he decides to go and rob the bank he was sent to prison for.
In the movie, you can see Niagara Falls and parts of downtown Buffalo.
