Summer may be more or less over, but the music scene is not slowing down one bit. You could arguably catch a must-see show every night of the week throughout the entire month, but since that is exhausting, here are the 10 “shows” that should be on the top of your list this month.

 

1. Dance Yrself Clean

DATE: September 1st

LOCATION: Marble + Rye

The reoccurring series will take a break from its home base venue of Milkie’s on Elmwood to bring its indie dance party to trendy downtown restaurant, Marble +Rye.

 

 

2. Tailor Made Music Festival

DATE: September 2nd

LOCATION: Canalside

COST: $55

Fanbassador’s fan-built music festival launches its inaugural with a hip-hop and EDM lineup headlined by Travis Scott and 2 Chainz.

 

3. Sheer Mag

DATE: September 5th

LOCATION: Mohawk Place

The cult Philly band will ride the breakthrough success of its class-rock riffing debut “Need to Feel Your Love” right into Moawk Place for must-see mid-week gig.

 

4. M.A.G.S. & The Slums

DATE: September 8th

LOCATION: Mohawk Place

The two indie acts, both celebrating the release of new records, take over the Hawk for a can’t-miss local bill. Humble Braggers and Albany group Jouska will also perform.

 

5. Conor Oberst

DATE: September 14th

LOCATION: Asbury Hall

The long time Omaha songwriter will leave his Bright Eyes moniker temporarily at home as he tours in support of his companion albums “Ruminations” and “Salutations.”

 

 

6. !!! w/ Algiers –  SHOW CANCELLED

If Oberst isn’t peppy enough for you, head right across the street for the dance punk band’s (pronounced Chk Chk Chk) welcome return to Buffalo. Make sure to arrive early to catch the buzzing opener Algiers.

 

7. Beach Slang

DATE: September 15th

LOCATION: Studio at Waiting Room Mohawk Place

COST: $17

If the Replacements, the Hold Steady, and Japandroids all formed a band, the result might just be Beach Slang. The punk leaning Philly act, last seen in a supporting role at Town Ballroom, will be back to headline the Delaware music venue.

 

8. Paws

DATE: September 17th

LOCATION: Mohawk Place

The 90’s college rock indebted Scottish trio will make its Buffalo debut as it head stateside for its latest batch of dates. Sonny Baker and Passed Out will be on hand for local support.

 

 

9. Gogol Bordello

DATE: September 18th

LOCATION: Rapids Theatre

COST: $32

The highly energetic gypsy-punk collective will make a special WNY appearance at the Niagara Falls theatre.

 

10. Flaming Lips w/ Mac DeMarco

DATE: September 20th

LOCATION: Rapids Theatre

COST: $50

The longtime Oklahoma psych-rockers team up with the goof ball Canadian songwriter for one of the more intriguing double bills to pass through the area this year.
