The size of Neat restaurant alone makes it impossible to fathom it anywhere but the suburbs. Couple it with the commercial restaurant feel, and it’s hard to believe that it’s not a chain. It’s a shift we’ve seen take place with many restaurants in Buffalo, especially when you venture outside of the city. Is it a bad thing? In my opinion – no, as long as the food doesn’t suffer, and Neat is in the clear in that department!
I headed out to Neat for brunch before the Bills game this past weekend and was shocked to see that they have their lunch menu as well as a menu full of brunch items available during brunch from 11am – 4pm on Sundays. Bottomless mimosas and Bloody Mary’s are available for $15. On the date of our visit, specials include: smoked salmon crostini, traditional potato pancakes, eggs benedict (prosciutto, avocado, or crab), french toast (plain, bananas foster, or berries), basic breakfast, Belgian waffle, build-your-own-omelette, scrambled breakfast, and breakfast pizza.
We went full brunch style and got mimosas, a Bloody Mary, and beer, as well as the eggs benedict with prosciutto, breakfast pizza, and french toast. We obviously hate carbs…
The Bloody Mary was just where I wanted it to be flavor-wise, but could’ve used a little bit more of a kick IMO. I still would’ve been able to down 3+ if I was in the drinking mood so I was pleased with it. The mimosa was also the right ratio of juice to booze, which is crucial to mimosa-ing, as we know.
All three brunch dishes were ample and one dish would be plenty for anyone. The pizza was definitely my favorite – the crust had a great texture, it wasn’t too greasy, and the toppings were distributed evenly, with each bite featuring crunchy bacon, cheesy cheddar, and fluffy eggs. The benedict with prosciutto also balanced well in terms of saltiness, hollandaise, yolk, and a soft english muffin to soak it all in. The french toast was nothing special, but it was not too dry, not too wet, and not too thick – and if you ask me, that’s really all you need in a french toast dish! The berries on top were fresh and bursting with flavor, too.
Neat had a nice crowd for a home Bills game day, and I’d love to return to kick back with some bottomless beverages and more breakfast pizza!
