Looking for something to do? Of course you are. With large-scale events still on the no-go list, you’re not alone. We’re *all* looking for more ideas on the things to do front.
Which is where smaller “events” like classes and workshops like the ones offered at Board & Brush come in handy. The new creative studio recently opened at 3675 Delaware Avenue in Kenmore, offering instructor-led DIY workshops featuring wood decor projects.
Owner Denise Katus worked in corporate America for over 30 years and finally felt it was time to jump into a passion project after experiencing a Board & Brush DIY workshop in another city. With encouragement from her family, Denise made the decision to open a franchise locally.
What to Expect
At Board & Brush workshops you’ll get the chance to DIY a large variety of customizable designs. “There is something for everyone,” Denise explained to us over email. Guests can all choose exactly the project they want to create, so everyone doesn’t leave with the same exact design.
“Our product is very high quality with 7 stain choices, 8 techniques, over 80+ paint choices. These are mostly 1″ thick wood pieces; not plywood. We are instructor led, step by step.”
When you arrive at Board & Brush, you’ll be greeted at the door by friendly, knowledgeable staff and directed to your seat where you’ll find your own own sanitized bucket filled with all of the tools you need to complete your project. From there, you’ll get the chance to look over your stencils to be sure that it’s what they wanted after having previously selected when signing up for the class.
Once class begins, guests are taken through the entire process of completing a project from beginning (sanding) to end (waxing and putting backers on). Throughout the workshop, music videos are played in the background and guests are offered beverages of soda, or alcohol if you’re 21+ (food items are available for purchase for anyone ordering alcohol).
Board & Brush also offers take home kits and virtual projects for those that are not comfortable coming into the studio just yet. Currently the studio is sanitized throughout the workshop including all tools, smocks, paint bottles and anything that is touched by customers including the bathroom. Tables are 8 feet long and unless it’s a private workshop, only 8 people are allowed per workshop.
