There are plenty of reasons to make your way over to Tonawanda these days, and one of the newest reasons is the soul food restaurant Flavors of Jean.
Open from noon until evening, Flavors of Jean is a night-and-day spot that switches from day-fueling breakfast and lunch foods to comforting dinner flavors. Their website describes a culinary journey by owner Chaniqua Davis that began in 2004. The restaurant is focused on providing simple and honest cooking using fresh ingredients.
Early in the day, you can get on-the-go options like breakfast sandwiches ($12), or a belly-buster in the Rambo Special breakfast ($20), which includes three eggs; steak, chicken or fish; French toast, waffles or pancakes; and home fries or grits. There’s also fried chicken and red velvet waffles ($15) and oatmeal with brown sugar ($8).

Later in the day, things get a bit livelier. Dinner options include fried haddock ($22), country-fried wings ($20), tacos with fries ($20), and chicken wings ($13 for 10 wings). There are also theme nights throughout the week meant to bring people together over food and drinks, including Tacos & Tequila Tuesdays, Wing Night Wednesdays and Ladies Night Thursdays.
The restaurant is a testament to the growing number of dining options in Tonawanda. Although Flavors of Jean has only been open for a few months, the buzz around Flavors of Jean is growing both online and IRL. If you haven’t tried the new Tonawanda restaurant yet, as their website says: “Dive right in, and take a bite; join us today.”
