When Hatchets & Hops opened their first location in Downtown Buffalo in 2016, they were the first axe throwing company based in the United States. And since then, axe throwing has become an international sport.
After a few years of getting their bearings and a delay due to the pandemic, Hatchets & Hops is expanding to a second WNY location in Buffalo’s Black Rock neighborhood.
Hatchets & hops partnered with Frizlen Group Architects on the new location, which will be located in the “The Black Rock Freight House”, one of the first mixed use projects in the area with 35 residential units that are currently open for rent.
Hatchets & Hops describes themselves as a premier recreational sporting venue with a casual yet competitive atmosphere. They offer highly trained staff, a selection of local beer, wine, and cider, and dedication to the customer experience over sport. If you’re looking for a great spot to get together with friends, family, or colleagues with a hint of adventure, this is the place to check out.
Andrew Piechowicz, Founder of Hatchets & Hops, noted that, “We have been looking at expansion for a number of years, but wanted to make sure that we were doing it for the right reasons. Axe throwing has been an unknown field since we began our journey through this process, and we are now at the point where we are ready to solidify our place as a Buffalo Born and Centered Company. We’re excited to provide Buffalonians with a great place to spend time with their friends and families and do something that they have never done before.”
“How many places can you go and have someone safely teach you how to throw an axe while enjoying a beer? All of this happens while knowing that you are supporting a local company.”
If questions about mixing booze and axe throwing pop into your head, read on. Business Operations Manager, Andrew Lloyd, has stated, “With zero incidents across almost 40,000 throwers, our stringent adherence to safety is clear to all who come through our doors. We’re proud to uphold the highest safety standards of any axe throwing club in the country. Our highly trained instructors’ unwillingness to compromise on any of our core values is evident in the experiences shared by our customers. Simply put, this isn’t just a target range to throw an axe at a wall, it’s a place to engage with those around you in a more authentic way than just sitting at a bar.”
The new facility will be located at 68 Tonawanda St, Buffalo, NY 14207, situated in the heart of a neighborhood welcoming the next generation of Buffalo businesses.
Bagels & Brews
Since the delay of their original March opening plans, Hatchets & hops has decided to add a new spin to the Black Rock location called Bagels & Brews.
That’s right, Hatchets and Hops is entering the Bagel world. Their website explains, “snatched from the foothills of the Appalachian mountains, this take on a classic bagel sandwich offers a quick, hearty, and unique option for eating some tasty food in our space, or on the go.”
Hatchets and Hops is partnering with Bagels and Brews to offer Bagel Sandwiches, Bean Bastard Coffee, and if your heart desires ice cold beer and Seltzer cocktails between 8 am- 1 pm Thursday & Friday.
Customers are encouraged to visit the space to use the wifi and enjoy hightop tables and calm a environment. Axes don’t start flying until 5:00 pm on Thursdays – Saturday.
Did we mention there’s a patio option for enjoying your bagel sammie too?
