With the sun and warmth (we promise, it’s coming) of May comes a fresh batch of restaurants and a brewery. The following are expected to open by May 31. Make sure to call ahead or check their websites for updates, as dates may be delayed. Let us know if we missed yours!
Newbury Street Cafe
Projected Opening: May 2, Soft Launch
This health conscious cafe in the former Louie’s Hot Dogs location on Elmwood is owned by Acropolis OPA’s Paul Tsouflidis. The plan is to give Buffalo a solid option for non-GMO food like salads, wraps, smoothies and juices. Their Facebook page states “Newbury Street’s Beverage Program will be truly one of a kind. Along with cold pressed juices, freshly squeezed lemonade and orange juice, we will offer Organic Gimme! Coffee (Black and Green) and Organic Mighty Leaf Tea.” Whether you’re a clean eating machine or have been hoping to stay on the wagon you so frequently fall off of, Newbury Street sounds like it’s going to be a big help.

Resurgence Brewing Co.
Projected Opening: 3rd or 4th week in May
If tasting creative beer is your new favorite thing, you’re not alone and you’re also in luck. Word of Sponge Candy Stout and Loganberry Wit brewing up at Resurgence Brewing Co. has been floating around for a while. It sounds like brewers Jeff Ware & Dave Collins have a vision not lacking in traditional German Style – just what Buffalo needs. The indoor/outdoor beer garden on Niagara St will boast a bocce ball court, fire pit, and an industrial look with carefree communal seating. Resurgence will serve light food such as shared dips and chips, meat and cheese platters, and hot pretzels with dipping sauce. Plus, they’ll allow their guests to order in from local places, and incorporate in food trucks eventually. (Sounds like the best of Hamburg Brewing Co. and Aurora Brew Works!)

The British Chippy
Projected Opening: First or Second week of May
English Pork Pie Company has decided to expand their offerings to include a British fish & chip shop. They plan to deliver a real taste of UK tradition via fresh, unfrozen Cod. The fish is shipped in directly from Boston and battered using a 100 year old technique and batter recipe. We’re in for a real British treat! Not only will you be able to order fish & chips, but mushed peas, and anything from their existing pie menu. Did we mention the imported tea and scones?

Eden Ale House
Projected Opening: Within first 3 weeks of May
Let’s hope these guys don’t have to wait much longer for their liquor license. Eden is getting thirsty. Soon you’ll find taps on taps & delightful happy hour specials at the former O’Briens Pub & Steak House on North Main. Expect a large, frequently changing beer menu that will eventually incorporate brews from future West Seneca brewery, Rusty Nickel Brewing. Western New Yorkers rave about the happy hour $3 pints of craft beer, and half priced appetizers at Ebenezer Ale House in West Seneca – also owned by Eden Ale House co-founders Nate Springer and Shawn Schweis. We’re looking at a nice bang for your buck in a beer-lovers haven.
