Updated October 2019
You’ve probably noticed that house plants are trending more than just about anything in 2019 (if not, you might want to crawl out from under that rock you’re apparently living under) – and they’re not going anywhere anytime soon. It’s obvious why- plants are pretty, they make for the perfect inexpensive home decor piece, and BTW they purify the air we breathe and have been proven to have positive impact on humans that spend time around them. We say the more plants, the merrier. And better yet, the more plant stores, the merrier.
Where exactly are we going with this? Well, we’re about to tell you about a plant lovers wonderland that just opened in East Aurora. Located in the gorgeous Knox Farm State Park (a reason itself to visit), the Plant Shack features a variety of houseplants, eco-conscious and high quality handcrafted items, and plenty of related workshops (YAS!) for all of WNY’s crazy obsessive plant lovers. With a motto like, “we encourage your houseplant addiction,” we have a feeling this place is going to be quite the sensation around here- and you better believe it hasn’t gone under our radar.
Owner and “local crazy plant lady,” Rachel Stepien, plans to keep WNYer’s on their toes by offering new plants and products everyday. Some plants at the Plant Shack are grown nationally (from states like Texas and Florida) and some locally right in our backyard. You can choose from an extravagant collection of all sorts of plant types- she’s got your basic plants, spider plants, snake plants, succulents- the list goes on.
Each day, you’ll find something brand new to the shack, and likely something you missed during your last trip – we’re talking plants GALORE here, guys. In addition to house plants, you’ll find all sorts of eco-friendly, reusable products made from recycled materials, including locally-made wooden planters 😍, greeting cards, cloth napkins, pots, and more.
Aside from the shop, community plant swaps and trendy workshops will also be available at the Plant Shack where anyone can learn how to care for their plant babies, make a hanger, paint a planter or create a succulent container, with the help of Rachel and other experts. If this doesn’t sound like a good time to you, we can’t be friends.
Be warned, you will literally feel nature wrap its arms around you when you walk into this shop and peep the gorgeous plant mural on the back wall by Kaylee Choate (@lupineandlead). We’re obsessed. And when you’re done shopping around, you can enjoy the great outdoors in the green space right outside the shack with cozy adirondack chairs, your furry friends (bring ‘em out!) and plant babies. Rachel has truly made the Plant Shack a welcoming year-round haven for plant lovers, and hopes her shop will be a “nice retreat during the winter months and a place for the community to gather.”
The new Main St. location will have its official soft opening on November 2nd. Here they will be holding classes, and workshops for WNYer’s, who are loving their houseplants.
