If it’s been a minute since you’ve been to the Village of Lancaster, you’ll find a lot has changed as of recently. As part of the village’s revitalization efforts, we’ve seen newcomers: Symposium Wine Bar, The Bathe Store, Precious Cargo Plant Shop, and more find homes along Main Street. The latest business to join the crew is woman-owned boutique, Emily’s Closet.

Since officially opening their doors on February 25, Emily’s Closet has collected over 600 brands from consignors to offer to customers at a fraction of their original price. Located in a newly constructed building at 19 West Main Street, Emily’s Closet was designed to have the feel of a boutique without the boutique prices.

Owner Lori Hannon wanted to share with everyone her love for consignment shopping and the thrill of finding unique and amazing items at a great price.

“It’s all about recycling fashion. Everyone has so many things in their closet they don’t wear that they can share with others, and keep out of the landfills,” says Hannon. “In the current economic climate, it is hard for people to pay full price, so they are opting to shop consignment and resale, as opposed to retail.”

As a lifelong resident of Lancaster and with the exciting things happening in the village, Hannon knew that this was where she wanted to open her new small business.

“Back in the 1940’s, my mother worked in a dress shop right down the street from my store. At that time, the Village of Lancaster was booming. It is so nice to see it getting back to that. My mother would be so happy that I chose this location.” Hannon said.

A member of the National Association of Resale & Thrift Stores, Emily’s Closet is the only women’s consignment boutique in Lancaster, selling clothing, shoes, jewelry and handbags, including luxury designer items.  The pre-owned items are gently used or new, many with the original tags still attached.  They also carry items from local artisans including hand-painted jean jackets and handmade jewelry.
