We can finally smell WNY summer in the air- but this July, you might just be sniffing a little something extra with the new (and might we add, first!) lavender farm in town!
Alex and Ryan Plante are officially opening Kin Loch Farmstead (lavender farm/ apiary/ shop/ venue)- WNY’s FIRST lavender farm located on Ridge Road in Lockport – to the public on July 13th, and TBH we can’t even wait a single day more. This couple moved all the way from Brooklyn to build their dream right here in WNY (bc where else), where the land between two lakes makes for some pretty darn fertile soil- perfect for a plant like lavender, indigenous to the sandy soils of the Mediterranean. Who knew? Last year, the couple planted 2,000 lavender plants, with 7 different varieties of French and English lavender on their land in Cambria, NY, located in Niagara County.
Kin Loch (Kin, meaning “family” in Gaelic, and Loch, meaning “lake”) has got SO much to offer, including U-Pick lavender with 7 different varieties and a shop with all sorts of lavender goodies – like lavender honey, soaps and candles. Check out their online Etsy shop to see all of the products they’ve got!
In addition, they will be offering some really neat classes during the week where guests can learn about all of the uses of the different varieties of lavender, whether for culinary, relaxation, health or decor purposes. If you’re looking to hone a new skill, or even just dabble for fun, there is something for you – botanical fabric dying, fall wreath making, wine tasting and flowers night, flower arranging, essential oils, etc. By the way, most of the classes are BYOB, so they’ll make for the perfect night out with friends! Okay, sign me up rn. You can register for the courses right on their website.

We did it! 1,800 lavender plants – 7 different varieties- are all planted in this lovely sandy soil. These little babies will grow to full maternity in 2 years, and can live up to 15 years! Special thank yous to @coleminer101 @heirloomsoulflorals @judiplante @kaetlynmartel and of course our shockingly good planter, @loribarrmiller . . . . #lavender #lavenderfields #buffalo #smallbusiness #farm #farmlife
Kin Loch is also home to an organic cut flower farm managed by flower farmer and florist, Fran DePalma, who will be instructing many of the floral arranging classes. She grows several different varieties of heirloom flowers, and makes the most beautiful floral arrangements and displays for weddings and special events. And speaking of, the farm has a gorgeous 50’ x 60’ rentable barn that makes for the perfect wedding and event venue!
The owners hope to add something unique to the Niagara Wine Trail and widely known agritourist area, and we’re super excited to add them to the map! Owner Alex Plante is looking to “make the farm a destination for anyone who enjoys nature and the outdoors to have a cool, fun experience!”
On opening day (July 13th), anyone and everyone is welcome to pick lavender, explore the lavender shop and enjoy the beautiful WNY outdoors. From then on, they’ll be open on Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 1pm!
