On Our Radar: An Opera in Buffalo, About Buffalo, for Buffalo

Shot in Buffalo, Nickel City Opera

Buffalo’s own Nickel City Opera (you know the opera co. that sings acoustic lunch performances around Buffalo and hosts shows inside grain elevators at Silo City) invites you to the premier of a brand new English opera this month called SHOT!.

SHOT! by Persis Vehar chronicles the assassination of President William McKinley during his visit to the Pan American Exposition in Buffalo, NY in September 1901. The show will premiere in the city the story originally took place in – where it truly belongs – right here in good ol’ Buffalo, NY.

This June you’ll have two (just two, people!) opportunities to catch this two-act extravaganza that no Buffalonian should miss. Performances of the original Buffalo-centric show will hit the Shea’s stage on Friday, June 10th and Sunday, June 12th at 8:30pm and 2:30pm respectively. So whether you’re in for a unique night on the town or want to spend the day soaking up some Buffalove, head to the show and maybe head to a nearby restaurant/bar to make a day/night of it (we love Tavern 414, Toutant, Marble & Rye, Big Ditch, Seabar, Expo, Cabaret to name a few).

The show features a full 26 piece orchestra, a 32 person chorus, Supertitles in English, Digital Projections of Buffalo History, Set recreations of The Milburn House, scenes from the Pan American Expo, and a story you’ve always wanted to hear! So if you had any doubts about how legit this is or fears that you might be bored because “it’s opera”, put them to rest. If I were you, I’d worry about the FOMO that will occur if you miss this.

Pro Tip:  Step Out Buffalo members get 25% off SHOT! tickets (all seats) and $25 special Student Tickets at the Shea’s Box Office and on the Ticketmaster website! Just enter OFFER CODE: SHOT25 for 25% off or OFFER CODE: SHOTSTUDENT for $25 Student Tickets. #yourwelcome
