Fall is here! How about them apples? That means it’s time to start planning your apple orchard adventures all over Western New York! Have a favorite variety? Many of these orchards have handy dandy picking guides, so you can plan your apple picking calendar accordingly. As far as the best places to go, Step Out Buffalo has it covered. 1. LynOaken Farms

This u-pick spot in Medina is open until November 4th Monday-Friday: 10-5, and Saturday-Sunday: 9-6.

2. Becker Farms

Reward yourself after a day of picking with a glass of wine, pint of cider, or flight of beers. And don’t forget to stop by the bakery for a bite of heavenly goodness — those cinnamon sugar donuts are everything.

3. Blackman Homestead Farm

The picturesque Niagara Escarpment backdrop, makes picking at this 165-year-old farm is a must for the whole family. When you’re finished, bring the kids to the apple shed for fresh pressed apple cider, and adults be sure to try the premium craft hard cider — it’s dry, smooth, and sharp!

4. Hall’s Apple Farm

After filling your picking basket, head over to bakery and stock up on fresh, fruity pies. Did someone say apple pie? More like apple of our eye. Try it, and thank us later.

5. Mayer Bros.

A visit to the Ol’ Cider Mill store is a yearly requirement. A trip here is about more than just apples. Apple slushies anyone? How about horse drawn wagon rides? If you are ready to get your fall on, head here.

6. Murphy Orchards

‘Tis the season to get picking. Step back in time when you visit this orchard. The farm’s structures, orchards, and landscapes remain virtually untouched from 150 years ago, and there’s even an Underground Railroad History Tour onsite.

7. Sanger Farms and Bakery

Choose to tour the orchards by foot or explore by old-fashioned hayride. Sanger Farms carries all everyone’s favorite varieties including Honeycrisp, Jonagold, Gala, Golden Delicious, Cameo, Crispin, Cortland, and Ambrosia.

8. Smith’s Orchard Cider Mill

Love them apples at Smith’s– they are kicking the picking season off with Macintosh, and progressing to Cortland, Empire, Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Crispin, and Ida Red. Spoiler alert– they now have yummy cider donuts to go with their cider slushies!

9. Stonehill Orchard

Rows of beautiful apple trees grace this orchard, and there are tons of varieties to pick from. Stonehill is a wonderful place to stop for a day of family fun and reasonable prices. They even have concord grapes for the picking, which BTW make great pies – Google it. The kids will love picking, and you will too!
