Our New Year’s Resolution for You: Get in on booming Buffalo

Sold on our New Year’s Resolution for you? Face it – getting in on booming Buffalo sounds PRETTY tempting. Maybe you want to get in on all the fun to be had in WNY, but just don’t know how. It can be tough. Many things are hiding in plain sight. You just have to know where to look to find the fun (and food) >> Here are a few ways to get in on the up and coming Buffalo.

1. Make it to Larkin Square

You may want to wait until the spring or summer for this one, or a heated event (they have those once in a while), but it should definitely be on your list. Enjoying live music in a beautiful setting in the city of Buffalo doesn’t seem like a lot to ask. Getting out and enjoying the area, and spending your hard earned dollars at the local establishments that fuel these events will do more for WNY than you may think.

2. Visit Silo City

Best way to do this will be to visit the Silo Fleas when they start up again. Vendors set up their nicknacks, jewelry, furniture, art, etc. amongst the strong, rustic pillars of Buffalo’s history. We find ourselves wondering more and more, why didn’t someone think of this sooner? Even if you’re not all that interested in shopping, it’s a very cool sight to check out. Keep an eye out for the first Silo Fleas in 2014 on

3. Experience Canalside

Kids stuff, free concerts, museum fun (maybe save that for when you have out-of-towners in), lounge in chairs by the water – plenty of Adirondack Chairs for everyone, exercise classes all summer, the list goes on and on. Go, relax, enjoy.

4. Find a favorite food truck (or love one, love all)

The food truck scene around here is growing – maybe they’re not all your cup of tea, but there is something for everyone when it comes to street food. Get in on the action, find a food truck, track them down, make a treasure hunt out of it. Or just attend one of the awesome events that round ’em up like Food Truck Tuesday at Larkin Square, rodeos at the Buffalo History Museum, or a Food Fight at Canalside. Be on the look out for these good weather events to start up again.

5. Try a restaurant in a new neck of the woods (South Towns, North Towns, Downtown)

We’re all accustomed to going to the same restaurants, possibly mixing it up here and there. We challenge you to try something new and maybe not within a 10 mile radius of your house or work? We know, its asking a lot – time, research, and let’s face it MORE TIME! But we promise, it’s worth it. There are great places to eat all over WNY and you could be missing out if your a north towner that can’t fathom the fact that there are good eats south of Hertel. Or a south towner that can’t be bothered with the “traffic” of the city. Let’s go people, grab a few friends and venture into the unknown. (okay, done being dramatic)

RESTAURANT SEARCH (by location, and so much more)

6. Make the effort to enjoy WNY – “BUT HOW?” you ask!

We’re trying so very hard to make it simple. Every month there are more things being added to the calendars of so many organizations working to make Buffalo an even better place to live, by making it fun and exciting. We, the Step Out Buffalo team, are here to bring that all together in one place to make it easy for you to find what you like and JUST DO IT! Easy as pie. The answer to your question (BUT HOW?): Check out on the reg. (We are open to suggestions!)

7. Last and most importantly, I think: Go back to the places you think are awesome!

To put it simply, Martin Cooks is a seriously cool concept. And Larkin Square is making moves in the best possible direction. If we want them to stick around, we need to keep giving them our business. Along with the other places that inspire us. So get out there and support the places you want to see thrive!

Now what?
