Oyster/Charcuterie Bar Opens in Williamsville

Fresh oysters are in season, at least here in Buffalo. Newly opened Billybar on Main in Williamsville offers several different varieties based on what is available. The new tapas style bar also offers some of the finest charcuterie in town compliments of Tabree Chef Bruce Wieszala. In the tapas tradition of small plates it is perfect for a light meal, a pre-dinner appetizer, or sharing with a group.

Billybar is the vision of Tabree owners Tara and Bryan Bryndle. The elegant space at the corner of Main and E. Spring (formerly Coffee Culture ) is casually outfitted with a large bar, table and lounge seating, and what promises to be a great patio area. Billybar offers a nice selection of wines, beers by the bottle and a full bar.

We stopped in for a quick sample and I’m happy to report everything is as good as it looks. We ordered the small  charcuterie plate ($16) that came with Chorizo, Sopressata, Finnocchiona, Pancetta, Prosciutto, Capicola, Pork Terrine and toasted bread slices. While all were great my favorites were the Chorizo and the Pork Terrine. Make sure you try the home made mustard and the cherry/raisin relish that comes with it.

We also ordered a dozen fresh oysters ($25), two of each variety: Summerside PEI, Pemaquid-Maine, Bras D’or- Nova Scotia, Wellfleet-Mass., Saint Simon- New Brunswick, Mayflower- Mass.. I can’t tell you which is which, but I can tell they were all delicious.

In addition to the oysters and the charcuterie they offer small plates of Roasted Bone Marrow ($9), Steak Tartare ($11), Lobster Roll Sliders ($6), P.E.I Mussels ($10), Octopus ($11), a daily prep of Ribs ($10), soups, salads, cheese board ($12), and shellfish plateau-[oysters, clams, shrimp, lobster tail] (small-$35, lrg- $60). They also offer Bruschetta four different ways – Margarita, Chopped Stuffed Peppers, Steak and Duck Confi ($9-$12) and a nice cocktail menu.

I would highly recommend the $1 per oyster happy hour everyday from 4:00 – 5:00. Billybar is a great addition to Main Street, Williamsville. Wouldn’t the world be a better place if every Main street had one?
