Safe Harbor Boat Rental

As August comes to a close, there’s a certain fear (not chill, *fear*) in the air that the weather is suddenly going to turn on us faster than Severus Snape in the Half Blood Prince.
It’s only September people, not November, and we refuse – REFUSE – to give in to the idea that we must stop having fun in the sun. Whether you bring a harvest ale (we don’t judge) or save that for a later date and bring a cooler of Coronas instead we have the perfect end of summer treat for you, and it involves renting a 30 foot Pontoon boat from Safe Harbor Marina for the day and hitting up some of our favorite places in all the world. Here’s what you should be doing with your precious last few weeks of summer:

Charlie’s Boat Yard

Safe Harbor Marina (formerly Small Boat Harbor) is located right in front of Charlie’s Boat Yard (formerly Dug’s Dive) on Fuhrmann Boulevard off Route 5, so Charlie’s should naturally be either your first or last stop. And stop you should. In the mood for a drink, food, ice cream, a great view at a patio bar after a long day of boating? All right here.

Canalside Buffalo

What would a boat outing be without a Canalside stop? Take your time getting there, meandering along the outer harbor, past the Buffalo Lighthouse and Naval and Military Park. Docking costs roughly $15 for a boat this size and is available on a first come first served basis. Once you dock we recommend hanging on your boat, enjoying the surroundings, but if you’re in dire need of an ice cream, bathroom, or lemonade Canalside has you covered.

From Canalside head down the Buffalo River away from the large ships towards Riverworks where you can also dock at the 400-foot dock near the General Mills plant. The fee is just $10 and you can stay as long as you like. There’s always something going on at Riverworks depending on the day and it’s the ideal spot for lunch, dinner, a drink or even their boaters brunch if you’re lucky enough to catch it on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am – 2pm.

Buffalo River

After Riverworks head further down the river and take in the new developments as you enjoy fellow boaters, kayakers, water bikers, and other happenings on land. Specifically you’ll pass Buffalo River Fest Park which has a brand new space called The Tewksbury Lodge, a new apartment complex by Ellicott Development, and tons of old grain silos.
