The Public House of Buffalo Takes Over Root Five

The Public House of Buffalo has announced they will be taking over the recently closed Root Five restaurant in Hamburg and plan to open The Public House on the Lake sometime in March. The Hertel Ave bar was anointed as one of the best new bars of 2014 by Step Out Buffalo. Sara and Frank Testa opened their first establishment at 1206 Hertel Ave. in July of 2014.

The bar is popular in the Hertel bar scene boasting a first class beer line-up and a creative chic gastro pub menu, both of which are updated regularly. Add in a nice front porch with a full sports schedule on the tube, live music and you have a winning combination.

What to expect? We suspect/hope, but have not yet confirmed, more of the same with the addition of a great view of the lake and patio space on steroids. We’re talking 20 some beers on tap, another five dozen by the bottle. Some say the beer offerings are among the best in town. Public House also brings plenty of imaginative dining options that have included pan fried walleye, spaghetti squash alfredo, lobster mac & cheese, burgers, vegetarian dishes and Buffalo favorites like wings, Beef on Weck and Fish Fry using local beers in the batter. They also enjoy the regular beer related events like tastings, tap takeovers and the occasional beer brunch.
