Love Buffalo? Love cycling? Love celebrating other cultures? Keep reading:
Buffalo is well on the way to becoming a more bicycle-friendly city! But there are still many folks out there who may not have touched their wheels in years, or have maybe never had the chance to ride. To that, we have the perfect response for you! Yelp Buffalo collaborated with GOBike, a 501c3 non-profit organization, to bring you Cinco de Cycle – a Cinco de Mayo party geared toward Buffalo’s bike-curious, and bike-lovers.
Since 2004, GOBike Buffalo has been contributing to the community through the means of community bike workshops, establishing the Bike Pedestrian Advisory Board to help improve the safety of bikers and pedestrians in Buffalo, and providing youth with the means of alternative transportation by way of bicycle, encouraging a healthier lifestyle. GOBike took part in developing the Buffalo Bicycle Master Plan, which aims to pave 300 miles of bike lanes throughout the City of Buffalo by 2030. These are some big dreams for cyclists in Buffalo, and with Cinco de Cycle, we hope to provide you with a way to get more involved in a very healthy and active lifestyle!
GOBike will be providing three instructional and informational workshops during the event, from your essential fix-a-flat class to the history of cycling in Buffalo. But the fun doesn’t stop there – we’ve got a ton of delicious, unique takes on classic Cinco de Mayo dishes lined up for those who RSVP! Teton Kitchen, a Thai & Japanese restaurant in Depew collaborated with Yelp to develop a delicious Sushi Taco just for this event, and you can be among the first to try Waffle Taco Ice Cream from the brand new, not-yet-opened Hertel Avenue Poutine & Cream! We will also be featuring Buffalo’s debut of a Phorrito, served up by the folks from Pho Lantern Restaurant on Niagara Street!
We’re certain you’ve never had the chance to try Sushi Tacos, or Waffle Taco Ice Cream; and you may be asking yourself, what is a Phorrito? There’s only one way to find out! But if the food isn’t enough to satisfy your taste, then come to quench your thirst – we will also have local beer, Bootleg Bucha, and Smoothies in Motion (a super cool bike-powered blender) to make D-I-Y ice cream floats! There will also be delicious eats provided by Undergrounds Cafe in the First Ward, Ashker’s and Private Knives Catering.
This party will be taking place in the beautiful atrium at 500 Seneca on May 5th with DJ Rock keeping the night going! So whether you’re new to biking, or you’re a pretty seasoned expert, we encourage you to come check it out!
The event is free to attend! All we suggest is a donation to GOBike at the door. RSVP’s will be required, and to do so, all you’ll need to do is fill out a Yelp profile. You can find out more information about this event at http://bit.ly/CincoCycle
