On Our Radar: Thin Ice Showcases Buffalo's Best Artisans

So many great things have been happening in Buffalo these past few years that it’s crazy to think about how long our favorite places have been around. Take for example Thin Ice. Located in the heart of the Elmwood Village near Cecilia’s and Blue Monk (RIP), Thin Ice opened in March of 2006 as a place for local and regional artists to sell their work in a space that was more permanent than a fleeting summer festival. Soon Thin Ice was home to one of a kind jewelry, hand blown glass, hand turned wood bowls, hand made scarves, hand sewn leather items, decorative wall art, kaleidoscopes, cards, mugs, wind chimes, cats that you can pet while you shop, and everything in between. Need a gift for your BFF’s birthday? Stumped what to get your grandparents for their anniversary? Do you feel great today and want to treat yo self? Thin Ice has got you covered.
In 2011 Thin Ice expanded its shop and took its local art game one step further by also providing classes -such as jewelry making, candle making, gemstones, and meditation sessions- as well as store events. These days our favorite artisan-collective ShopCraft can be found every weekend in Thin Ice’s back studio selling their eco-friendly, handmade, and, TBH, *awesome* products which include C Designs’ so cute handmade cards and stationery, Paperette’s amazing repurposed maps-turned-cards and envelopes, and Lady Fingers’ cozy knit scarves, hats, gloves, and even bow ties. Plus have we mentioned there are cats you can pet while you shop?!
On Saturday April 2, 2016 from 10am-10pm Thin Ice will be celebrating a whopping 10 whole years of showcasing some of the best artisans in Western New York with food and drink from local vendors, free chair massages from Chair Massage Pit Stop, resident cats Atti and Simon for your petting pleasure, and of course oodles of wonderful handcrafted goods from over 200(!!) different artists with 10% of all sales going directly to Haven House, a domestic violence prevention center. It’s going to be a great time with great people (and food, and cats) and to top it all off it benefits a great cause. Holla!
For more information on Thin Ice or to shop their online store head over to Thin Ice’s website and be sure to check out their Facebook for all the latest happenings. See you April 2nd!
