Step Out’s 13 cents:
Allen Street Hardware Cafe is an eclectic gastro pub that was once, you guessed it, a hardware store. While the hardware is mostly gone the charm remains. They go heavy on the creative in food, drink, art and music. The “healthy” portions of satisfying comfort-food leave little room for much else, but don’t overlook a robust beer list.
If you’re going for the food think Mon- Thurs. Looking for nightlife – the weekends bring a solid crowd and music. The burgers are great but the meatloaf is hard to pass up.
Allen Street Hardware says:
Taste the neighborhood The cuisine at Allen Street Hardware is as diverse and eclectic as the community it feeds. Using fresh ingredients and a variety of unique recipes, comfort food gets an upscale upgrade in a warm cafe environment without all the stuffiness. Food should make you feel good, and at Allen Street Hardware, life just seems to get better with every single bite.
Our building has been at the center of Allentown since the late 19th century, most recently, until the creation of the Cafe in 2004, a hardware store. Then, as the Allen Street Hardware Store and now as the Allen Street Hardware Cafe, our corner has defined our wonderful neighborhood. At Hardware, we are feeding the people and the people, we know, are feeding the neighborhood.
