Updated August

The days may be getting shorter and the nights cooler but summer is not – we repeat NOT – over yet. Although it’s true, there’s nothing like the pending doom of Snovember to kick your butt in gear! Here’s a list of allllll the rooftop patios in WNY to check out before it’s too late.

Deep South Taco

Neighborhood: Ellicott

291 Ellicott St., Buffalo / Restaurant Info

Rooftop open: Thurs – Sun after 4pm

Good for: Drinking only

The newest addition to this lovely list. Deep South Taco has a fantastic patio game whether you’re on the roof overlooking downtown or not. But if you are, extra points to you. The rooftop is open for drinking only so it limits the possibilities some. We’d love to be able to enjoy a nacho plate on the roof – maybe one day. For now bring your cold marg upstairs anytime from Thursday to Sunday and enjoy the weather while you can.

Mangia’s Rooftop / Step Out Buffalo

Mangia Ristorante

Neighborhood: Orchard Park (South Towns)

4264 North Buffalo Road, Orchard Park / Restaurant Info

Rooftop open: Mon – Sat at 5pm

Good for: Dining & Drinking

A quaint “loungy” rooftop right in the Village of Orchard Park. This spot is perfect for a drink before or after dinner whether it’s at Mangia, across the street at the new(ish) OP Tap & Grille, or somewhere else.

The rooftop features a full-service bar and plenty of room to stretch out and relax on comfortable outdoor lounge furniture. Just like their spacious dining room downstairs the rooftop menu features plenty of tasty choices served on real plates, etc. #vibes

Soho Burger Bar

Neighborhood: Chippewa (Downtown)

64 West Chippewa Street, Buffalo / Restaurant Info

Rooftop open: Wed, Fri, Sun

Good for: Dining & Drinking

One of the trendier places to visit if you’re into dining and/or drinking on a rooftop any evening in Buffalo. Soho Burger Bar is known to many not only for their extensive food and drink menus but also for their strong late night scene.

Their rooftop bar features about a dozen tables for dining and additional room for those who prefer to stand to gather and converse while sipping on their favorite beverages. The atmosphere is always festive and there is something special in the air as you overlook Buffalo’s Chippewa Entertainment District.

While some may think Soho is just another drinking establishment on “The Chip Strip,” I highly suggest you come here with an appetite and strongly consider ordering a milkshake (with or without booze), truffle tater tots, and any one of their cheeseburgers.

Skybar Rooftop

Sky Bar

Neighborhood: Chippewa (Downtown)

257 Franklin Street, Buffalo

Rooftop Open: Fri & Sat nights, cover starts at $5

Good for: Drinking

Located on top of D’Arcy McGee’s Irish Pub, Sky Bar is open on Friday and Saturday nights throughout the summer months. One word describes the view of downtown Buffalo and beyond from here – breathtaking. Another place where you want to see and be seen, there’s a energetic vibe in the air when the weather is warm and Skybar is open for business.

These guys have reasonably priced drinks which are also “regular sized” aka each beverage is served in glassware and carefully prepared, not quickly and carelessly poured into a flimsy plastic glass. A visit here is a nice way to follow up a meal downstairs at D’Arcy McGee’s, around the corner at Expo, or any number of restaurants within walking distance.

It should be noted that there’s a strictly-enforced dress code and you may be asked to produce photo identification prior to entering.

Tappo Rooftop

Tappo / Step Out Buffalo

Neighborhood: Business District (Downtown)

338 Ellicott Street Restaurant Info

Rooftop open: Mon – Wed at 5pm, Thurs – Sat at 4:30pm, Sun at 3pm

Good for: Dining & Drinking

Truly spectacular views can be enjoyed from Tappo’s rooftop terrace that some may say say rival the views from the top of any bar or restaurant in any major U.S. city.  Tappo embraces the fact they have a great space and they do whatever they can to make sure you enjoy it.

In addition to a great view they serve classic Italian food with superb customer service at affordable prices. If you can find a few good friends who have a few hours to spend enjoying the view, a pleasant summer evening awaits you.

Elmwood Ave + brewery = perfection. Plus they carry lots of local craft beers and have an amazing food menu that changes with the seasons. Be sure to keep an eye out for their special events and themed brunches!
