Buffalo is the kind of city where everybody knows your name. For those of us lucky enough to grow up in this great region of WNY, we hold a lot of pride in our hometown. Sure we get the jokes about the snow and our obsession with blue cheese, but it’s what makes us unique and at the end of the day, deep down, we love it.
While newcomers are welcomed with open arms, the truth is, the “Keep Buffalo a Secret” mural outside Oxford Pennant couldn’t be more accurate.

In a recent article from Pro Mover Reviews, major cities in the U.S. were ranked among their percentage of transplant residents, native born residents, and foreign-born residents. *Natives are defined as residents who were born in or around the area.
Taking the number one spot among the top 15 U.S. cities with the highest percentage of residents born in the state of residence (a.k.a natives) is… you guessed it, Buffalo, NY.
The article states, “The Buffalo-Cheektowaga metropolitan area in upstate New York came in at number one, with an incredible 81.69% native residents. That puts the total percentage of transplants and foreign-born residents at under 20% combined.”
So as much as we can complain about the cold, there’s something pulling on our heart strings keeping us from going anywhere.
Are we surprised? Not. at. all.
