Imperial Pizza - 28 Days of Pizza | Step Out Buffalo

February is finally over, and with it goes our 28 Days of Pizza. (Actually ended up being 30 days, as if 28 days of stuffing face wasn’t enough.) We received so many recommendations that we had to keep going. In fact I’m surprised that we only went over two days. It was a delicious ride for our “official tester” and all those who went along for the ride(s). Not only was this a dream come true for our self-declared pizza expert (some of our dreams are smaller than others) it was pretty eye opening to see the variety of pizza we have going on here in Buffalo. 28 Days of Pizza may seem like a somewhat dull adventure to embark on when there are many, many interesting things going on in the foodie world these days. But some times, you have to challenge what people know, what they’re comfortable with. We’re not saying give up your usual place, or travel 20 minutes for a good pie every Thursday (we’ve heard some people do that…). We’re saying, there is A LOT out there, and it’s cool to know about it. Am I right?

Please keep in mind this is one guy’s opinion. One college sophomore who likes pizza, eats it often, is open minded to different flavors, tries anything, and is now obsessed with his number one ranked place. (He brought 2 sheet pizzas back to school with him…) Also keep in mind that 4.0 and above on the like-o-meter translates to “Highly Recommended”, which means there’s a lot of good stuff out there.

Let us know what you think about our official tester’s Top 5 Pizza Picks in WNY. Did he hit the nail on the head? Did he miss the boat? Should we fire him? Is he your new best friend thanks to his insightful recommendations? We also have some honorable mentions for things that are extremely important to us: our favorite crust, serious about pepperoni, best cheese, coolest presentation, funniest pizza guy & other places we recommend.

Honorable Mentions

Favorite Crust:

Serious About Pepperoni:

Best Cheese:

Coolest Presentation: Half Pizzas from

Funniest Pizza Guy:

  • Joe’s NY Style Pizza for saying yes they have small pizzas, when the order was placed on the phone. When our tester arrived and commented “wow, that’s a big small pizza”. “Ya, well our small is the same size as our large…same price too.”

Also highly recommended by the SOB Team:

Correction: After tasting 30 pizzas in WNY, we feel a 4.1 is an unfair rating to give Cappelli’s. It’s harder than you think to compare and contrast (especially when you’re hungry). Therefore, we’d like to make a correction to their rating. We consider Cappelli’s to be a 4.4.

Thanks for reading, everyone!
