When you think of wineries in Western New York, what comes to mind? Is it spending an afternoon sampling delicious, locally-made wines and hard ciders? Maybe it’s treating yourself to a luxurious cheese spread that pairs perfectly with your tasting flights.
Either way, you’re probably thinking that you’d have to venture out into the Southtowns or over to the Finger Lakes region of the state for such an experience, right? But that’s where you’d be wrong! Because Chateau Buffalo is located right in the heart of Downtown Buffalo.
As the region’s first urban winery and cidery, Chateau Buffalo’s mission is simple: Provide top-notch local wines and edibles that enlighten and enrich the palate. Since 2005, they’ve kept this goal top-of-mind as they’ve grown from their humble beginnings in a tiny storefront on Hertel Avenue to a full-blown urban winery and ciderhouse destination.
Today, Chateau Buffalo boasts a unique and inviting atmosphere throughout their tasting room, art gallery, and sales center in the Niagara Frontier Food Terminal. Want to check it out for yourself? Here’s 5 ways to enjoy wine-tasting, elevated cultural experiences, and more with Chateau Buffalo:

1. Wine & Hard Cider
When we said Chateau Buffalo has a unique atmosphere, we weren’t kidding. When you book a wine tasting experience, you’ll have the option to enjoy your flights by the glass either inside Chateau Buffalo’s tasting room or outdoors on the loading dock of the historic Niagara Frontier Food Terminal. Choose from a variety of house-made wines crafted with local ingredients, from relaxed rieslings and crackling rosés to dry whites and classic reds.

2. Local NYS Cheese Selection
At Chateau Buffalo, it’s no secret that the tasting flights are certainly the star of the show. But we’ll be honest: Their selection of cheeses to pair with your beverages are a close second. While you sample your wine and hard cider, sample and snack on a variety of New York State local cheeses for the full effect. Find one you love? They’re also available for purchase!

3. Suite 16 Cinema Series
If you’re looking for a unique movie night experience, look no further than Chateau Buffalo’s Suite 16 Cinema Series. On select evenings, you’ll have the opportunity to view vintage 16mm films presented in their showing room— all of which are actual historic prints, not digital reproductions. (How cool is that?) The events in this film series all function as charity fundraisers with 100% of ticket proceeds going to worthy causes, so it’s a win-win all around.

Another way to pair some culture with your evening of wine-tasting is by taking in the art exhibit at the winery known as the NFFT Creators Gallery. A showcase of artwork created by the artists-in-residence at Niagara Frontier Food Terminal, this intimate gallery space has an ever changing exhibit of extraordinary pieces.

5. Broadway Market Kiosk
If you frequent the Broadway Market, be sure to check out Chateau Buffalo’s kiosk! A curated selection of their wines and ciders are available for purchase on Saturdays, making it the perfect place to pick up a bottle of your favorite beverage from your tasting experience.
