The black windows and bold branding made me stop and stare and the friendly faces made me stay. [Sweat] Society – located next to Modern Nostalgia – is bringing a big city look + neighborly vibes to Hertel Avenue. Basically, prepare to fall in love.
This boutique fitness gym is a one-of-a-kind addition to the block. When you enter, you’ll walk through Modern Nostalgia and into a completely collaborative space. Think fit, fashionable, and welcoming. The coffee bar meets in the middle, and serves yummy shakes and protein bars ideal for re-energizing after a shopping spree and/or challenging workout. All in all, 10/10 so far.
An Inspiring Story
Brad and Lex Chambers are a father-daughter team and together they run [Sweat] Society. Brad has years of business experience and Lex, age 21, created the vision. Lex’s passion for fitness has been growing since her teenage years. She grew up playing team sports, but her heart was happiest at the gym.
Without plans to, her love for the fitness scene grew into something more — a business plan. When she first started researching the possibilities, she imagined opening a place someday – you know, down the road. Before she knew it, her timeline shortened from five years to right now. [Sweat] Society’s doors officially opened on June 1, 2018.
But first – research. Lex spent two years traveling to bigger cities like New York, Boston, Chicago, and Toronto. These trips only fueled her desire to bring a brand-new fitness experience to Buffalo. The sense of community was missing at many of the places she visited. Buffalo is all about community, so a studio designed to bring people together is a natural fit.
Lex is a back to roots kind of gal, so opening a space in her hometown felt right. Buffalo is home, and now [Sweat] Society is home too.
An Inspired Space
[Sweat] Society itself is the best of all fitness worlds. They offer studio-style classes, one-on-one training, and open gym memberships – meaning you don’t have to choose one or the other. Imagine a gym set up with a small studio feel.
Available classes include Tred + Shred, Tred, Tred + Core, and Boxing + Strength. The class sizes are kept small, ranging from 6 to 16 people depending on the class, and open to all skill levels. But really the instructors spell out multiple options for you, so run if you want to or walk if you want to. Do you, boo.
Just because a class starts, doesn’t mean open gym is over. You can still jump on a treadmill, grab some weights, or find a mat. There’s room for everyone! Oh and BTW they have peloton bikes too. As someone who is spin-obsessed, the ability to virtually spin with some of the best instructors is kind of a dream come true. And yes, it’s live.
Did we mention they have a smoothie bar serving smoothies, electrolyte drinks, coffee and proteins bars?
Inspiring a Lifestyle
[Sweat] Society is a welcomed addition to the Hertel community and my personal fitness schedule. Joining this society feels more like signing up for a lifestyle than a gym membership and that’s such an encouraging feeling. Keep it up, friends!
