If there’s one event that stands out as truly unique to Buffalo, picking from the full list of foodie fests and vendor markets to parades and cultural displays, it’s the Skyride. Not because it isn’t done elsewhere, but because it’s impossible to do it the same, anywhere but here.
If this extraordinary experience is new to you, allow us to explain. Skyride Buffalo is a bike ride through Buffalo that takes the road less traveled (by bike) – the Skyway. This epic ride will take place on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 8 am starting at LaSalle Park.
The SkyRide is GObike Buffalo’s signature annual event, a fundraising bicycle tour that includes miles of open highway and an incredible, scenic ride over the 100-foot-high Skyway. This year the event will be bigger and better than ever with the addition of a bike-themed festival taking place in LaSalle Park following the *ride of a lifetime*.
No matter your views on the Skyway (love it or hate it, the Skyway is on top), you’re almost guaranteed to be obsessed with the world class view you’ll experience as you ride your bike over it with a couple thousand Buffalonians.
Now in its fourth year, Skyride has grown from a far-fetched idea into something more than an exhilarating bike ride. It represents something bigger. GObike Buffalo believes our streets should be places where people can connect, enjoy community, and revitalize the city, and that cities should be designed for the people who live in them, not the cars that drive and park in them. We agree.
Basically, by joining GObike on this unique ride, you’re joining the efforts to make our streets safe and inviting places for everyone. And for that, you deserve a “Good for you, Glen Coco”!
The Bike Festival at LaSalle Park will start at 10:30 am and includes a Fat bike demo with Campus Wheelworks, Ride with Reddy Bikeshare, Vendor & non-profit village, Bike building demos with Nickel City Cycles, Bookbike, a Bird’s Nest circus arts performance, Yoga class + acroyoga workshops with the Bird’s Nest, BMX skills show with Jim Cielencki & friends, and a Mountain bike stunt show with Mike Steidley.
Participants are encouraged to ride their bikes to LaSalle Park if possible, however, parking is available nearby at D’Youville College and paid parking can be found at a number of lots and parking ramps downtown.
