With plenty of beautiful, safe places in Buffalo and Western New York for families to picnic this season, we urge you to step out – blanket and basket in hand! Use this guide to find the best family picnic spots near you.


Delaware Park

Located in the heart of Buffalo, Delaware Park is a prime destination for your family picnic. It’s rolling meadows of greenery are the perfect spot to spread a blanket and settle in with your loved one, and there are plenty of playgrounds for kids. This urban oasis of 350 acres is both captivating and relaxing. You’ll know right away why this place is the centerpiece of parks in Buffalo!

Cazenovia Park

South Buffalo’s finest park is the perfect place to experience a quiet lunch and a peaceful walk within the city. The soft grass of this secluded gem is the ideal place to spread a blanket and cherish a summer’s day. There’s basketball courts and a playground area with a splash pad for the kids. Also, there is are plenty of great walking paths shaded by trees to stay cool.

Wilkeson Point

Martin Luther King Jr. Park

Broderick Park

Based upon the Niagara River, Broderick Park will not disappoint in the summertime with the gentle breeze of the waterfront soft against your face complimented by scenic waves of green. This hidden gem will have your heart with it’s serene vibes that are perfect for a family picnic.


Knox Farm

Nestled within the cozy village of East Aurora is a hidden gem known as Knox Farm State Park. It spans 633 acres including a woodland area that is perfect for an adventure and grass pastures which are the prime place for your picnic. Visitors to Knox Farm can observe wildlife, along beautifully scenic trails that are dog-friendly.

Chestnut Ridge Park

From the top of the sledding hill there is a beautiful view of the city skyline that will resonate long after you leave. This place is perfect for a family picnic – there are several of playgrounds for the kids; frisbee enthusiasts and dogs are welcome!

Niawanda Park

Niawanda Park is a gem to the north located upon the Niagara River that poses the perfect place for a family picnic. There’s over two miles of picnicking space with a paved trail for walking, running, and cycling. The immaculate views here will enhance the senses of all outdoor lovers. Plus it doesn’t hurt to have Mississippi Mudds nearby for a post-picnic treat, just sayin’.

Ellicott Creek

At Ellicott Creek you can choose to picnic upon the creek bed under the willow trees, or at one of the leisurely shelters, but either way you will be satisfied. This place is family-friendly with a playground and space to launch your canoe for a day on the water. Feel free to cast your line because the fishing here is awesome!
