The Draft Room at The Labatt Brewhouse has transformed a street corner of the Cobblestone District in Downtown Buffalo into a sprawling beauty of brick, steel, and glistening glass garage doors. It’s the hottest new spot for anyone heading to KeyBank Center events to grab a bite to eat that’s not too far off the beaten path and is located conveniently next to a parking garage (cause god forbid you have to walk a few blocks or take the metro).
I was stoked to try The Draft Room brunch for the first time as I had heard great things and my parents brought me a Bakery 55 cinnamon roll that was dynamite when the bakery first opened! Y’all know how I feel about cinnamon rolls, so we were off to a good start.
The sheer size of The Draft Room is enticing and coupled with the self service model, I was really digging the ability to choose for yourself and to me, it created a more relaxed vibe. It didn’t seem to slow down or confuse service while I was visiting, so I’ll attribute the negative service reviews online to people just being helpless.
I started with the TDR Bloody Beer which was essentially a thirst-quenching, wonderfully-concocted michelada. The Draft Room’s beer selection is abundant and there is something for everyone, so it’s a perfect spot to gather with a group of friends. For food, we ordered the Bakery 55 French Toast Sticks, the Breakfast Flatbread, the Pork Belly BLT, and the Canadian Bacon Burger.
I knew that I wouldn’t be able to stop myself from eating the entire stack of french toast sticks once I started, so I opted to get to work on the burger first. The balance of the burger was great – nice thin smash burger, salty Canadian bacon, fresh and crunchy lettuce, and a hint of sweetness with wild blueberry jam all sandwiched between a nice fluffy roll.
The pork belly BLT was a nice spin on a BLT with a thin layer of potato to add a different element while still maintaining that classic BLT nostalgia – savory, juicy, crunchy. The flatbread also did the job just right and didn’t have too much of any ingredient weighing it down or making it soggy like you may find with a lot of flatbreads. I also enjoyed the ultra crunchy base – there’s a crunch theme here, isn’t there…
The french toast sticks – they were just delightful. From the whipped cream right down to the maple porter glaze. I knew the cinnamon roll was an indication and boy, does the Bakery 55 staff know how to mix carbohydrates with sugar and cinnamon. 12/10 would go back just for the french toast sticks!
The best thing about The Draft Room brunch? You can enjoy it on Saturdays AND Sundays! 10am-2pm. Head down on a quiet afternoon and take in the glory that is our Cobblestone District.
