The International Institute of Buffalo is reimagining its major annual fundraiser this year by introducing Buffalo Without Borders To Go.

The International Institute of Buffalo supports refugees, immigrants, foreign born survivors of domestic violence, and all survivors of human trafficking. The need for resources and opportunities has only increased due to the stress of the crisis.

This year’s event will take place over the course of four Monday evenings in late October and early November. Each night, you’ll receive dinner for two that’s prepared by a local immigrant-owned restaurant, a bag full of local goodies, and cultural activities to participate in at home.

There will be interactive materials about the country, an audio playlist to listen to at dinner, a craft project, a kitchen gift, a staycation travel experience, recipes from the restaurant and local home cooks, and historical content about each culture.

Each of the four nights will focus on a different region of the world. Here’s a little sneak peek of what to expect:

  • October 19: Africa
    • Zelalem Gemmeda of Abyssinia Ethiopian Cuisine will be using spices imported from Ethiopia to make all of her traditional favorites.
  • October 26: Latin America
    • Maria del Carmen of Kiosko Latino will be creating a blended menu of Puerto Rican and Mexican recipes.
  • November 9: Asia
    • Master Sushi Chef Kevin Lin of Sun Cuisines will be preparing a fusion of Thai and Burmese food.
  • November 16: Middle East
    • Falafel Bar will be cooking a menu packed full of Middle Eastern favorites.

There will also be VIP tickets available which will include all of the above, plus a paired wine selection, customized gourmet popcorn, globally-made face masks, a pair of beers from Community Beer Works, and gourmet chocolate packaged in an insulated bag.

There will also be a week-long virtual marketplace starting on October 12. If you mention The International Institute of Buffalo with your purchase, 10% of the purchase will be donated to the organization.

Participating businesses include Ten Thousand Villages, Stitch Buffalo, Sasmita Batik Indonesia, Black Monarchy, and West Side Bazaar shopping vendors.
