If classic design, elegant surrounds and first rate traditional fare are what you’re looking for, then the Roycroft in East Aurora will leave you happy. The Roycroft Inn, steeped in the history of the American Arts and Crafts Movement, was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986 as part of the Roycroft Campus. You can even spend the night at the Inn as they have a nice variety of rooms. Truthfully, if you haven’t been here it’s worth the trip just to look around, but while you’re here you might as well eat.
The Roycroft offers an extensive menu for Restaurant Week with items in three sections – $20.13, $30.13 and $40.13. Each offers soup du jour or salad, an entree, and dessert. 30.13 and 40.13 offer French Onion soup as an option. We also enjoyed a nice fresh loaf of bread with fluffy butter.
For our dinner we enjoyed two from 20.13:
- Blackened Atlantic Salmon – pan seared lobster butter. This comes with a vegetable assortment and rice;
- Tortellini and Tenderloin- tri-colored tortellini, beef tenderloin tips, gorgonzola cream sauce.
From 30.13 we tried:
- Single Prime Domestic Lamb Chop- 8 oz grilled, fine herbs, roasted garlic sauce.
- Berkshire Pork Porterhouse – grilled with a California golden raisin and pine nut relish and pancetta chips.
Both of these came with vegetables and mashed potatoes.
Dessert Trio- a sampling of chocolate truffle cake, carrot cake and pumpkin cheese cake-yum.
They have a nice LRW wine list with six bottles priced at $20.13. We opted for the Ca’donini Montepulciano D’Abruzzo (2012-Italy). The Roycroft does not have beer on tap, but they do have some nice bottle selections. We had a Rusty Chain and a Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale – which was a big hit.
Everything we sampled was perfectly cooked, the service was excellent and the space is fantastic. Home run. If I had to pick one I’d go with the Tortellini and Tenderloin, maybe the Salmon if you want to go light, but in truth we liked them all.
