I want to do many things before I die — climb to the top of Machu Pichu, for example — but a bit more attainable than that is to try as many of the soups as I can at Danny’s Buffalo Cuisine.
Why? Because they offer a staggering number of them: 125. Channel 4 recently conducted a poll in which Danny’s was voted “Buffalo’s Best Soup,” and it’s 100 percent warranted.
Danny’s has two locations, one at 4300 Abbott Road in Orchard Park, and the other at 3716 Genesee St. in Cheektowaga. Both of them offer the same bomb soups.
One hundred and twenty five soups, aren’t, however, available all at once. (It would be a feat of epic culinary proportions if they did, though, wouldn’t it?) The soups rotate daily. Four are always on the menu, with the one staple always being their most popular soup, the award-winning spicy Buffalo chicken wing soup.
“We used to serve it once a week, but that didn’t fly with the customers,” said Michele Ebeling, co-owner of Danny’s. “They’d request to have it every day.”
Interestingly enough, temperature doesn’t always dictate soup sales.
“In the summer, when it’s 90 degrees, I sell just as much chicken wing soup,” said Ebeling.
Danny’s doesn’t just serve your blase chicken noodles and beef barleys. The sky’s the limit, with some soups include wacky iterations, i.e. peanut butter soup.
Ideas are culled not only from the chef but also from family members, she added, noting that Danny’s is a family-run business with input from everyone.
“Anything you can put onto a place, we can make into a soup,” said Ebeling.
Some fun soups they’ve featured over the years include unstuffed cabbage roll, pierogi, lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, chicken broccoli Alfredo, chicken stir fry and taco. They’re currently working on a breakfast soup to serve at Buffalo Soup-Fest.
After doing some scouting, I found my own personal “Top 10” list of ones I find most intriguing, and would most like to try.
Here they are:
1.) Unstuffed cabbage roll
2.) Buffalo beef on weck
3.) Spicy sausage
4.) Creamy Reuben
5.) Pepperoni pizza
6.) Unstuffed hot pepper
7.) Turkey pot pie
8.) Meatball gnocchi
9.) Cajun black bean
Fortunately, you don’t have to leave your favorite soup to chance at Danny’s. They feature a unique “soup call list.” If you find a soup you really love at Danny’s, they’ll put your name and number down on a list for that soup. When it’s on the daily rotation, they’ll call you in the a.m. and let you know. How cool is that?
What will soup at Danny’s cost you? A cup is $3.99; bowl $4.99; quart $10.69; and, for the exceptionally hungry, a gallon is $34.99. They also offer a soup and salad bar ($9.59) featuring the spicy Buffalo chicken wing soup, along with three other homemade soups, freshly made garlic breadsticks and homemade croutons.
A note on the croutons. Ebeling said that people will come in just to buy the croutons, which feature a “special seasoning” that she wouldn’t disclose, obviously.
I’ll get to Machu Pichu eventually, but for now, I think I’ll just scratch delicious soups off my list at Danny’s.
